Rowling takes a jab at Bush in her latest Harry Potter novel....
The sixth book of the Harry Potter series just came out and was written over the past two years.

For non-HP people Lord Voldermort is the bad guy.

Ok I have edited this part from the chapter "A Very Frosty Christmas" and the scene is outdoors with a talk between Harry Potter and the Minister of Magic. The Minister of Magic wants Harry to stop by the Ministry and make it look like he is helping fight Voldermort.

"No, I don't think that'll work," said Harry pleasantly, "You see, I don't like some of the things the Ministry's doing. Locking up Stan Skunpike, for instance"

Scrimgeour {new Minister of Magic} did not speak for a moment but his expression hardened. "I would not expect you to understand," he said,.... "These are dangerous times, and certain measures need to be taken"........

"Yeah, and other might say it's your duty to check that the people that really are Death Eaters {terrorist} before you chuck them in prison," said Harry....."or we got you, chucking the wrong people in jail and trying to pretend you've got the 'the Chocen One {Harry Potter}' working for you"......

{Harry continues } "You don't care whether I live or die, but you do care that I help convice everyone you're winning the war against Voldermort {terrorist}

******************

Maybe I am reading too much into this scene but I do not think so... Throwing people into jails not caring if they did anything but using that to claim you are winning the war is just the things Bush has done.

3. I thought so too. And then there was the thing about long lines for
security reasons.

BTW, does anyone else think that the Weasley Twins are really DU posters?? "Why are your worrying about You Know Who. You should be worrying about U No Poo." Remind you of anybody here?

6. read the first page of the new HP book
It has the Prime Minister waiting for a phone call from the "President of a distant country" (or something like that; I'm quoting from memory), and later refers to him as "that wretched man".

Gee, I wonder who she is talking about?:-)

7. She takes a jab at the Preznit on the very first page..........
'It was nearing midnight and the Prime Minister was sitting alone in his office, reading a long memo that was slipping through his brain without leaving the slightest trace of meaning behind. He was waiting for a call from the President of a far distant country, and between wondering when the WRETCHED man would telephone, and........

I've only just started reading it, seems like the book will have several little pokes at His Fraudulency.:-)

8. So is Snape, KKKarl Rove, Cheney or Powell
There are so many real life parallels. Loved DD saying, The Daily Prophet, they get one or two things right about his fight with the Minister of Magic.

But the first page, yikes it's just sitting there.

10. Comic Con is over
and one of the free comics takes plenty of swipes at the current mis administration...

Hell in the middle of writing a trilogy and the third book has plnety of swipes at the neo cons...

I think this is the thing to do by many ... and these days we see the messages now seeping into the culture... why they hate popular culture

If you want PM me and I will share the first draft where I take my swipes.. or at least the major swipes

11. Any Philip Pullman fans out there?
------------------------------------------------
For children's fantasy writer Philip Pullman, George W. Bush would make a perfect villain in his epic sagas of good and evil.

"He would fit right in," said the British author of the trilogy "His Dark Materials" which now looks set to follow in the cinematic footsteps of Harry Potter and The Lord of The Rings as the next blockbuster franchise.

"Bush has this baying certainty and has imposed this fervent zealotry," said Pullman whose books have been condemned by church groups for attacking organized religion.

"The Christian right in America is the mirror image of the Islamic fundamentalists," he added.

I think describing the HDM books as sagas of "good versus evil" seems to be completely missing the point, but there you go.

14. I've been dying to tell someone that's exactly what I thought, too!!
The whole Purple Pamphlet from the Ministry = Ready.gov 'Go buy duct tape!' crap...

And the loss of due process for all the innocent wizards/witches being 'picked up' in the sweeps the Ministry is doing...

Hey, let's also not forget the use of 'unauthorized torture' that the Ministry let Umbridge use on Harry in book 5...

JKR is a brilliant woman, fabulous writer... Anyone that 'poo-poos' Harry Potter as a 'kids book' needs to pick up a copy and read it...
