US tried to plant WMDs, failed: whistleblower
US tried to plant WMDs, failed: whistleblower
June 21 2004
Daily Times Monitor original story

According to a stunning report posted by a retired Navy Lt Commander and 28-year veteran of the Defense Department (DoD), the Bush administration’s assurance about finding weapons of mass destruction in Iraq was based on a Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) plan to “plant” WMDs inside the country. Nelda Rogers, the Pentagon whistleblower, claims the plan failed when the secret mission was mistakenly taken out by “friendly fire”, the Environmentalists Against War report.
Nelda Rogers is a 28-year veteran debriefer for the DoD. She has become so concerned for her safety that she decided to tell the story about this latest CIA-military fiasco in Iraq. According to Al Martin Raw.com, “Ms Rogers is number two in the chain of command within this DoD special intelligence office. This is a ten-person debriefing unit within the central debriefing office for the Department of Defense.”

3. More importantly, is Nelda Rogers credible.
This I do not know, but have only seen this story one place, and then it disappeared.

5. I wondered why the US didn't try to plant WMD - it seems like
something they would do.

9. Go ahead and google her name. You'll see this story first surfaced
two years ago. The original story has since disappeared.

While nothing this regime does would surprise me, I don't know how credible this particular story is.

17. Erased ?
It was hearsay that was over two years old, completely unverifiable and with no credible evidence or source.
It originated on a conspiracy website, maybe that's why it was "erased".

Not me. Wonder what the WH will say in doublespeak about this. Interesting that the link to the original story in the Daily Times Monitor inside your link says, "File not found."

16. Who is Nelda Rogers ?
From Mother Jones:

Fake WMD:

Here's my August dive off the deep end. This little story managed to make the out-of-bounds rounds. It seems to have started at what looks like a conspiracy website, almartinraw.com. The url I have for this one is a Pakistani paper, but it also appeared via Yahoo and elsewhere.

***

I was unable to google up anything else at all about Nelda Rogers, so the odds are this is the worst sort of balderdash, but we all have our weaknesses - and the CIA track record for weird plots is such (remember those poisoned cigars that were supposed to take down Castro?) and the need to find wmd in Iraq is such that I couldn't help but wonder. In any case, it seems to me I should be allowed one freebie from Mars this overheated summer.

19. This was talked about here...
when it first happened. The name Nelda rogers was not mentioned at the time (IIRC) but the story of a planted weapons operations. I think Tiniore was one of the firt DUers to talk about it.

26. Yes, it was all over DU. But, I remember Nelda Rogers name from a couple
of the articles. I don't know why it's resurfacing just now on some sites that many DU'ers feel aren't credible. Maybe she's for real and couldn't get her story listened to anymore after the first reports. It's only the last few weeks anyone wanted to hear about the lies that brought us into Iraq.

As I remember, most of us thought she was very credible

21. There was this story a couple of years ago
Don't know whether it was true or not. Supposedly some troop that was with the special mission wrote home about the terrible mess. The 100 dead part rings a bell.
