That's the question to ask after both The New York Times and The Washington Post published front-page articles that reported that Karl Rove did speak to conservative columnist Bob Novak before Novak wrote an article revealing the CIA identity of Valerie Wilson and that Rove had confirmed to Novak that Valerie Wilson worked at the CIA"

2. because

the law pertaining to "outing" CIA agents only applies to people who learn of it through their own security clearance. There's no law against journalists publishing the truth.

This guy is simply a slime. They knew it was wrong...and they did it anyway.

The whole thing is this: Do the right thing. If you know it's morally and ethically wrong, and do it anyway, then you've not done 'the right thing'.

Novak didn't - and he's a slime.

3. It doesn't matter, Rove had an obligation to report that

a newspaper reporter had classified secret information and that he was going to publish it.

Rove was obligated to stop Novak at this point and to inform the FBI immediately.

I wish people would remember this point.
