Here's the link....
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/theblog/archive/jay-rosen/rollback_4257.html

It's a lot longer than most HuffPo blogs, but is worth a read I think....here's a one-sentence summary from Jay Rosen's post:

"This White House doesn't settle for managing the news--what used to be called "feeding the beast"--because it has a larger aim: to roll back the press as a player within the executive branch, to make it less important in running the White House and governing the country, but also less of a wild card in fighting enemies of the state in the permanent war on terror."

Sorry if this is a dupe!

1. Sounds very true, but whre there is a vacume
nature fills it...in this case with online reporters, blogs, etc. And the people are much more dangerous than the press, since they aren't beholden to the the WH or corporate interests.

2. I completely agree - they made a strategic error by removing the illusion
we had a free press and democratic republic. Removing that buffer takes their aggression to the people. And once we the people realize we are being attacked, we will fight back. And we'll win.

"When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible but in the end, they always fall -- think of it, ALWAYS."

4. That's the truth!
...and imagine where the hell we'd be without the blogosphere, etc.?!!

Frightening to think of.

3. The Bushies want to destroy all independent institutions
They throw bombs into the senate to destroy it's ability to accomplish anything; they neuter the press; they pay off the huge media conglomerates; they subvert the press with fake journalists and discredit it further; the congress is a gerrymandered rubber stamp; executive agencies are populated by persons hostile to the most basic function; churches get put on the public payroll; even lobbyists have to put loyal republicans on the payroll.

It's the proto-totalitarian state. They want no power besides Bush.
