What Is The Motive Behind MSM's Political Spin for Rove?
What do you think their motive is? I mean... what will the spin do to influence a Grand Jury's decision? Isn't what they are doing irrelevant to the ACTUAL case?

Or can the media influence a case like this?

2. Possibly two motives at least
Edited on Sat Jul-16-05 01:37 PM by Tommymac
1) Without perceived public support the *'s regime political capital is worthless. (Same way in a theoretical election - to steal it you must have the polls be close right before the election to make the theft credible) They will not be able to control the media, i.e control events and the message. They will not be able to control members of their party who are not 'true believers' but merely ideologues. By neutering Rove, we have neutered the strong arm behind the velvet glove. You can see this in practical terms by the actions of the previously docile WH press core this past week - the very real professional threat of retribution to them has been lessened by Rove's troubles. This spin is an attempt to keep that type of control in the short run.

2)To poison or sway potential jury members for the eventual trial. You can bet there is a line for a jury consultation firm somewhere on Roves' expense report.

Excellent point!

"You can bet there is a line for a jury consultation firm somewhere on Roves' expense report."

3. The motive is the same as it always is and always has been ,
to prevent the American People from learning the truth about the criminal cabal that runs our government.

The Plame case ultimately gets down to the heart of the lies that set the course for the Iraq invasion. The People are already becoming increasingly disenchanted with the project, therefore the bush junta and their corporate sponsors must spin more desperately than ever.

If Fitzgerald is as honest and as much of a straight shooter that he has been portrayed as, then the answer to your question: "...what will the spin do to influence a Grand Jury's decision?" should be: Media spin is not allowed to influence a Grand Jury.

You notice that the attack has not yet been turned on Fitzgerald, himself. A most pertinent question to ask right now is this: "Why not?"

Is it because they know that Fitzgerald has the goods on them and they are frantically trying to cover their asses before the shit storm breaks in earnest?

Or is it because they are confident that the Grand Jury investigation will go the way of ALL investigations into the junta -- off the page and down the memory hole while they continue to tighten their grip on power. With nice, quiet horse head in the bed message to Fitzgerald for good measure. A public smear of the prosecutor might be too obvious, even for these shameless criminals.

No matter what, were I Fitzgerald, I wouldn't fly in any small planes...

5. Fitzgerald is a Mob Prosecutor
Edited on Sat Jul-16-05 03:16 PM by Tommymac
from all accounts stuff like this would not sway him. He is by all accounts a really hard core prosecuter.

They can't attack him politically because he is apolitical. He is currently in charge of the Daley investigation in Chicago too...a Democratic scandel. Painting him as partisan just won't fly.

Also, he is very experienced with prosecuting organized crime rings. He comes from NY ... and was tenacious and fearless in this duty. Intimindation won't stop him. He is used to it.

No, they know that they cannot compromise Fitzgerald - and they also know that if something happens to him, it will do more harm than good.

On Edit: He also has a reputation that he gets the goods. Once he is on to someone, he will get them. And he will expand his investigation until he finds something indisputable to hang them with. This is another reason the * regime is scared...

This time they have nowhere to hide...the light is too bright. They can't scuttle away from it.

6. I hope all you say holds true. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
But I've been bitterly disappointed too many times during this long nightmare of the bush junta when so many ugly things have come to light and yet done no damage.
