Air Force One Phone Records Subpoenaed
In light of the New York Times report today about the memo: State Dept. Memo Gets Scrutiny in Leak Inquiry on C.I.A. Officer, remember that in April 2004, the Special Counsel subpoenaed the telephone records from Air Force One: Probe Wants Air Force One Records.

Just think about it ... Bush, Rove, Powell, Fleischer ... who knows who else ... were all in that air plane together with Powell walking around with that memo that referred to "Mrs. Wilson".

This scandal is not confined to Karl Rove ... and it doesn't start at the bottom or middle and work its way up -- it starts and ends at the TOP!

1. And the plot thickens. Pat Buchanan (on another thread) mentioned it too.
We know it can't be only about Rove- Fitzgerald would not have jailed Judy Miller and this would not be where it is without it being a major story and many believe it goes all the way to the top.

2. The next records to be subpoenaed.....
...will be the phone records on 9/11. Should make for some very entertaining testimony during the Bush/Cheney impeachment and trial.

4. I've read about the AF1 phone records several times.
Do you have any idea when they were subpoenaed? I know how this WH draggs it's feet and I was just curious if these records will be getting to Fitz soon or if this Subpoena was just issued and we will probably have another month or more to wait.

6. This will end up becoming Nixonian....
...the SCOTUS will be the final say so over executive privilege and the tapes/records. Unfortunately, for Bubba-bitch-to-be precedence has already been established.

13. Rehnquist

Maybe that's why Rehnquist is staying on. Doesn't anyone else think it is odd that there were several media reports of his imminent retirement? Seems like as soon as the Rove story broke, Rehnquist changed his mind or was asked to stay on.

16. There are different standards for civil versus criminal proceedings.
They will have to comply with the subpoena.

12. April 2004
The news report about the subpoenaed telephone records is from April 2004.

Though 'assuming' anything is risky ... if the Bushites had refused to comply, don't you think that in the intervening 14 months Fitzgerald would have gone to court to get them?

So, they probably have been turned over.

And in response to another post ... actually, yes, it would be a 'good' thing if Rove wasn't on that flight. It does make more sense then that there were phone calls back and forth between Air Force One and the "fixer". In otherwords, a record of the conspiracy.

18. Correct....Rove was not on Air Force One...that trip
Rove Didn't Go to Africa, Not On Air Force One

The AP article detailing Rove's e-mail to Deputy National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley I just wrote about also has this piece of information:

Rove sent the e-mail shortly before leaving the White House early for a family vacation that weekend, already aware that another journalist he had talked with, syndicated columnist Robert Novak, was planning an article about Plame and Wilson.

Rove also knew that then-CIA Director George Tenet planned later that same day to issue a dramatic statement that took responsibility for some bad Iraq intelligence but that also called into question.

Rove spoke to Novak on July 8 and Cooper on July 11. Tenet's statement was released July 11. Bush left for Africa on July 7, 2003 and returned on July 12.

Fitzgerald supboenaed the telephone records of Air Force One between July 7 and 12 - the period of the Africa trip. So clearly, Rove wasn't on the trip or the plane - and it's not Rove's conversations while he was on board Air Force One that Fitzgerald was after.

7. O'Donnell Mentioned Something Interesting About Fleischer
When he was on with Lou Doobs last night.

He mentioned that his "sources" (who also were the ones to release Rove's name before anyone else did) kept hearing Ari's name being mentioned in testimony. Interesting.

This is a telephone game going here...and more than just flight records. These guys are good at obscuring and disemenating with very little trace...they've been doing now for decades.

17. According to Randi Rhodes, back then, you could google her up
as Valerie Plame in seconds. Her name wasn't a secret per se, it was her profession. In several Joseph Wilson bios at the time, it said he was married to the former Valerie Plame.
