"California is homo town"
...this is what Conan said on his show tonight I don't know the context because I just heard the sound but can someone post the contact info for NBC I don't think comments like this should be tolerated or allowed to slide.

1. Maybe he was imitating what Schwarzenegger would say...
You probably need to know the context before complaining, no?

4. I don't regularly watch Conan
but I don't think comedians should be censored, you can show your displeasure by not watching him.

It reminds of 30 years ago when Archie Bunker called California "the land of fruits and nuts," might it have been offensive to some? Probably, but I found it amusing in context.

6. I'm pretty sure it was in the context of a joke.
Conan's a very intelligent and cultured guy. He certainly wouldn't say something like that in seriousness.

7. Chill guys - it was a joke (not a good one, but joke)
Edited on Sat Jul-16-05 03:12 AM by RobertSeattle
The context was "Red State names for Blue States".

Examples:
Wisconsin in WussConsin, etc

10. "Homo Town" is not an insult
I've had a few people ask if I'm a gay man. I respond by saying, "No, but thanks for the compliment."

11. sounds good to me
Doesn't hurt to be a little cleaner, better-dressed, and more intelligent than the average bear. I'm all for homo town. It sounds like a nice place to live.
