Someone in an earlier thread passed this on to me from the Daily Howler. It isn't about journalistic integrity, folks. It's about access to the powerful. Read this article! It was an eyeopener for me.

1. Those reporters spend twenty or thirty years building up their sources.
So Judy can kiss her career bye bye if she tells all her sources. She likely has some inside the government and but most likely in Repuke circles. That is why she wrote such propaganda leading up to the war. She looses all of that access if she tells. Also sources in the Middle East who were drinking Kool-Aid too.

So she goes to jail, protects her career and will be free as soon as the case is over.

I don't feel sorry for her. She is in a tough business and rumunerated for her expertese.

2. Hey, Judy's career was in the tank as soon as the WMD issue was exposed
as a fraud -- and she was carrying the fraudulent message. When the anthrax was being mailed around after 9/ll to Brokaw, Rather, and Dem Senators, Judy Miller got a letter with white powder that turned out to be baby powder, I hear.

3. More than likely...

Noone has said anything about waivers being gotten from anyone except for WH staff. Miller says the blanket waivers were signed by her sources (she just won't honor them.) The simplest explanation here is that those sources are indeed WH staff, until someone comes up with information saying that people other than whitehouse staff signed the waivers.
