Florida's Holy Land theme park dodges property tax
It's a tacky theme park. It's a business. But it's about religion (well, the right sort, anyway) so it gets to be tax-exempt. Figures:

..and it's REALLY tacky: they have a crucifiction EVERY day.

1. My only thought when I saw that story...
was that they can't be missing out on too many tax dollars. I would hope it'll go out of business anyway.

2. You know
I had read about this place but I thought it was a joke. So it is real. Hmmmm. I am afraid if I was there I would have an uncontrollable urge to scream something vile so their behavior police could tote me away. I normally do not do things like that but this place would most likely tip me over the edge.

Tax Exempt. I would love to know how much they make in donations.

4. I read about this on another board
I think since they are profting from it they should be tax'd unless it's on their own private property. Then they can do whatever they want. But it's the old first amendment rule. I guess this means I can go and open a Six Flags-like theme park and just say it's a religious theme park and make tons of cash.

6. All I need is "religious nature"? Here I thought the business had to
be a real non-profit! Silly me! I can put some religious sculptures around my yard and get tax-exempt. I like that.

Just think, in Florida you can kill tresspassers without worrying about going to jail or put up some religious decorations and become a "religious nature". I wonder if "religious nature preserve" would work? God made is little animals right!!!

9. Commercial zoning? Pay taxes, then. Simple. nt

Edit: it occurs to me it could be industrial zoning--same deal.

I'm no lawyer, perhaps I'm missing a loophole.
