Uh Oh... Even * Supporters Are Starting To Get Pissed At Rove !!!
Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 12:55 AM by WillyT
<snip>

The Bush White House has been joined in defending what appears to be indefensible by high Republican Party officials. Instead of speaking to the substance of the charge against Rove - that he leaked to a reporter the identity of a CIA agent - party mouthpieces are taking a page from the Nixon administration and characterizing the criticism of Rove as a partisan attack. Republican spin is being aided and abetted by that wholly owned subsidiary of the White House, conservative talk radio.

There always is a partisan element in most everything that goes on in Washington, but Rove's role in outing a CIA agent is far more serious than a political dirty trick. It is illegal to reveal the identity of a CIA agent. It is a violation of federal law to be part of a scheme that results in the identification of an agent. At this point in the federal investigation into Rove's activities, it appears that at the very least Rove is guilty of the latter. His lawyer said as much, and one reporter identified Rove as the leaker.

Partisan apologists are falling all over themselves defending the president and Rove. It won't wash. This thing stinks. Only the president can apply the disinfectant. The president's support (we count ourselves among his supporters) was derived in large part from his commitment to restore decency and accountability to the White House. The Rove mess puts that commitment to the test.

1. The people who are now trashing Plame and
Wilson and spreading lies had better be careful or they will be included in the charges for trying to orchestrate a cover-up.

2. can't let it end at Rove
Our entire government has been hijacked by a band of criminals. We can't say, "Oh, we got Rove" and let it slide. Until we bring them to justice our entire country, including its citizens, is nothing more than a criminal organization.

3. I am sure they wished this never happened.
Somehow I think Rove was just too clever for his own good this time and the Plame affair has taken on a life of its own.

The leadership may make Rove take the fall, just to sweep this mess under the carpet.
Be too bad if something happened to him.

5. I think so too
And I think that Fitzegerald is going after something more then just Rove but knows Rove is the beginning. What's sick about this is how they hammered Clinton but shrugging off what Rove did and not wanting to know the truth and really know etc. So I'm sure they're all guilty because they aren't letting up their talking points.

7. Rove is doomed and may pull some friends down with him.
I think, FreedomAngel 182, what is really at the root of this is a flawed doctrine of the ends justifying the means, that has charcterized the Repugs from Nixon's days.

A little too much power can do terrible thing's to a person's judgement.

With someone totally as inept and corrupt as the Chimp and put him in charge and its just one bad decision after another. Hubris, karma, call it that or more but I am so enjoying seeing this beginning to play out.

Have no sympathy for them.

6. And Another !!!
<snip>

Still, several top GOP officials _ including some White House advisers _ said the fight was becoming a distraction to Bush's agenda. The GOP officials, speaking on condition of anonymity to avoid looking disloyal, said the president may face a credibility problem because his spokesman said in September that anybody involved in the leak would be fired.

These Republicans, all admirers of Rove, said they were surprised and disappointed when Bush stopped short of publicly backing his longtime aide.

A survey of Republicans outside Washington revealed similar concerns, though few officials were willing to go on record.

"I think he should resign," said Jim Holt, a GOP state senator from Arkansas who is running for lieutenant governor. He joked, "I hope Karl Rove doesn't come gunning for me."
