Sign one:

USA Patriot Act

Although the Beloit College Library makes every effort to protect your privacy and confidentiality by retaining patron records only as long as absolutely necessary to conduct Library business efficiently and effectively, records of the information you sought or received may be obtained by federal agents under the federal USA Patriot Act (public law 107-56). That law prohibits library staff from informing you if federal agents have obtained records about you.

To view the Beloit College Library policy and Confidentiality policy please see the Library's homepage: (URL).

Questions about the federal law should be directed to Attorney General John Ashcroft, Dept of Justice, Washington DC 20530

Sign two:

Watch this sign!

When it disappears you'll know that the FBI was here with a court order, granted under the USA Patriot Act, to gain access to Library records of Beloit College Library users in an investigation related to terrorism.

To protect the privacy of Beloit College Library users within the scope of the new federal USA Patriot Act, the Beloit College Library implemented a Privacy and Confidentiality Policy: (URL)

We have also developed a record retention policy to ensure that unnecessary information is not collected and library records are kept no longer than absolutely necessary.
