Left-handed human race to make the world a better place
http://english.pravda.ru/main/18/90/360/15765_lefthanded.html

Scientists say that the number of left-handed individuals grows rather fast in the world today

Specialists calculated that every tenth human being is left-handed. The total amount of lefthanders living in the world reaches over 600 million. According to experts' estimates, there will be a billion of left-handed people living on planet Earth by 2020. The world will be different against the background of such a trend, scientists say.

"The number of left-handed babies that were born in 2005 doubled the amount of left-handed children, which saw the light in 1990," doctor of biological sciences, Alexander Dubov said. "Mankind is changing slowly. However, it is not about degradation of the human civilization at all. Quite on the contrary, people become more perfect," the professor said.

Latest research works conducted in many countries of the globe showed that the IQ level of left-handed people is higher in comparison with the one of right-handed individuals. Every fifth outstanding person is left-handed as a rule. Furthermore, the people, who can boast of having extraordinary abilities, are left-handed too.

...now if we could just teach left handed people to not drive with their left foot resting on the brake pedal when they're driving. LOL!

use your left foot for the brake. (I am left handed)

40. Rest your left foot...
My best friend is left handed and when I'd follow him home on occasion, his brake lights were always on. It's because he rested his left foot on the brake pedal. I'm told this is quite common for southpaws. I meant no offense.

45. I wasn't offended at all. Actually, I don't ride the brakes.
I drive a stick shift and ride the clutch. A friend who used to ride in my car sometimes was always scolding me for doing that. I still do it.

47. Um, I don't
and I'm left handed.

Most of the people I know who drive "two footed" are older ladies who learned that way. I've never known someone to drive like that just because they are left handed.

Weird.

11. The rates increasing are in part because we arent as 'oppressed'
as once, many families used to force lefties to become right handed, that is less so in most the world now that we know it can screw a kid up. But else where, it goes on, especially in China, where less that 1% is left handed, and the language is virtually impossible to write left handed.

In any event, I suggest we rule with an iron (left) fist and convert all the right handed people to the better way  Left power! ;)

20. That is so true
Back in the dark ages (50's) it was still unacceptable to be a lefty. I was constantly teased by the rest of my family and had many teachers insist my parents "make me normal". Sitting in the back of the class with the clowns wasn't fun either but if you didn't, someone was always bumping my arm.
Now, it is never a problem to find 'lefty' stuff and I am thankful to my parents who taught me to celebrate it. As the sign in my kitchen says 'Lefty's have rights, too!'

21. In the 1920's...
my mother went to a Catholic school...the nuns tried to force her to be right handed ... and hit her with a ruler everytime she tried to write left handed.(Left handed was considered the mark of Satan and all by the Church back then). Her mother heard about it and went in and basically told the nuns that if they tried to force my mother to be right-handed one more time she was going to stuff their habits where the sun doesn't shine, nuns or no nuns!

25. I was going to mention something about that
in my post as well, but I'm glad you brought it up. My husband has told me of students having their left arms tied behind their backs when he attended Catholic school. I thought the relentless teasing I got was bad, but that humiliation had to be the worst.
I also read somewhere that more children afflicted with polio were lefties forced to be right-handed. It could very well be true since studies suggest doing that created an imbalance and thus weakened the immune system.
Amazing what harm is done in the name of ignorance. We who had parents that allowed us to be ourselves were the lucky ones.

22. Yes, I totally 100% agree with this!
Especially this part:

Latest research works conducted in many countries of the globe showed that the IQ level of left-handed people is higher in comparison with the one of right-handed individuals. Every fifth outstanding person is left-handed as a rule. Furthermore, the people, who can boast of having extraordinary abilities, are left-handed too.

My agreement of course, would have nothing to do with the fact I'm left handed myself. }(

23. We (Left-Handers) More Acceptable Now
They don't treat it as a mental disturbance or a willful refusal to cooperate anymore, the way they used to. As a kid, in kindergarten, I was taken to a school psychiatrist, held back a grade (until they had to move me right back up again) because they assumed left-handers were either stupid or "not facing reality"--actually said to me once--and they tried for a while, to force me to "change." Thank God for my wonderful Mom, who when she learned of all this, fought them until they stopped. I don't think they do these things anymore, as if there were something "wrong" with left-handed people. They used to. The only thing wrong with us is that they don't build things for us, and you are always having to think reversed. I think it helps the brain.

My grandfather was a leftie whose arm was tied behind his chair in school (1910s). I think he must have griped about that over the ages, my mom mentioned it many times and she left my leftiness alone because of it.

36. woo-hooo!!
I'm a lefty too! But I do alot of things right-handed, which I think stems from growing up the only left-handed person in a family of six.

At work, I use an adding maching with my right hand, while at the same time I will write stuff down with my left hand. People say I have "unusally neat hand writing, for a left-handed person".

I failed hand-writing class in grade school, because the teacher claimed "your letters don't slant the correct way for a left-handed person". WTF? Who cares, you can read it, right?

I can't use left-handed scissors, I play baseball right-handed.

When I read this article to my Mother, she told me that my grandfather (my father's side) used both. I assume that's where it came from. It's also possible, I was really meant to be right-handed, but when I was born, neither of my arms worked (breached with my arms twisted up behind my back) Doc's said I might have use of my right arm, most likely never my left. My mom had me put through some serious pysical therapy, and they worked with my left arm more than my right. So, that might be why I'm left-handed.

44. I've always been proud of being left-handed.
Sure, sometimes it's a hastle, like trying to get my arm comfortably through the rings of a three ring binder so I can write on the title page, all while sitting at a right-handed desk, and then washing the ink smudge off my hands. But I'm creative and artistic and obviously smart enough to be a liberal, so it's all worth it in the end!
