Robert Byrd speech tonight!
Dear DU,
I just happened on this while browsing the
C-Span program schedules:
"Robert C. Byrd: Child of the Appalachian Coalfields
Senator Byrd talked about his memoir Robert C. Byrd:
Child of the Appalachian Coalfields, published by
West Virginia University. The book recounts the Senator's
life experiences from growing up in Stotesbury, W.Va.,
in the early 1920s to his election to an eighth U.S. Senate
term in 2000. During the presentation, Sen. Byrd explains
that this is not only his story, but also the story of West Virginia.

Tonight!
Can't wait!
LOVE the Byrd.

5. What "Clan" thing?
You were supposed to take a right turn off of the internet highway to get to your destination.

Hope that helps.

8. We revere senator Byrd for his "Constitution thing". He's the #1 defender
of the U.S. Constitution.

The tired KKK stuff that people drag up dates back to more than 50 years ago.

Byrd has long demonstated that his KKK affiliation was an error of his youth by his many years of sterling public service.

6. Do you mean the "Klan," as in KKK?
If so, I think Byrd has more than adequately
explained his BRIEF participation and
rejection of the Klan.
Deceptive cowards and bullies can fool
anyone, for a time, and I do believe that is
exactly what happened to the Byrd.
they sold him one thing and when he
realized it was not what he bought, he returned
the merchandise. End of story.
Welcome to DU by the way.

11. Thanks for the info
Love that man ~ his speech before the war 'I weep for my country' was more than inspiring and so on target regarding this band of thugs in the WH. I remember crying, on the night of the IWR vote, as I watched my Senators ignore his warnings, and right after he spoke, and literally begged his colleagues not to give Bush Congress' power to declare war, they went ahead and tried to excuse their war vote.

That was the first time I ever cried because of a Senate vote! He was so passionate, and desperate as he tried to stop what was happening ~ I felt utterly betrayed that night! But comforted to know that his words were recorded, as were their actions.

I will watch him speak, it is always worthwhile. His debate with Frist on the filibuster was a historic event to watch as he tried to teach Frist the meaning of the Constitution and the importance of not silencing the minority in Congress. It was lost on Frist, of course.

This pin was designed with him in mind www.pinsforpatriots.com. They wasted time trying to add a flag amendment to the Constitution this week. So ironic, as they wrap themselves in the flag and destroy the Constitution. Better to wrap oneself in the Constitution and burn the flag, imo. Go Sen. Byrd! He is a national treasure.

12. Great post!
I concur with every point.
I am counting the hours down to the broadcast.
It should be spectacular.
He is SUCH un eloquent speaker, unlike the
POTUS of the False Frisitian Coporate Church of War Profiteers.
