I think the naked statues in the Justice Department should be removed.
Obviously, they have done nothing, clothed or unclothed, to inspire Bush-appointed Justice Department officials to enforce the law or even understand the spirit of our legal system. They are in the process of subverting and destroying our federal legal system and judiciary to support oppression illegal war, and the theft of government assets.

It is obvious to me that the current Justice Department needs to be reminded of their mission. Therefore, I propose those statues be replaced with:

a statue of a prisoner at Guantanamo, shackled, sensory-disabled, and caged.

a statue of poor children with empty plates and hungry looks in their eyes.

a statue of a grown man crying, holding papers telling him that his assets or retirement fund have been stolen by a corporation.

a statue of a terrified woman with a coathanger.

a statue of a boy holding a frog deformed by pollution.

a statue of a farmworker receiving a small check for a week of work with overtime.

a statue of a well-dressed lobbyist handing a check to a Congressman at a fancy restaurant.

Well, this is just my first draft of what statues should replace the naked ladies, who don't do a thing to remind employees of the Justice Department of their true mission and have provided a convenient story for the media to use to distract us from what is really happening at the Justice Department.

When will there be some indictments in the Valerie Plame case?

6. Thank you.
We really shouldn't be hearing more about the statues than about Valerie Plame.

4. No, they should not be removed.
Just what does removal of those statues have to do with you had to say? Those statues have been there since the 1930's and have nothing (in more ways than one) to do with this administration.

7. Well, they're useless as anything but a distraction.
I'm proposing that we use statues there to try to wake up the consciences of people who walk by them. The people currently running the Justice Department need to be reminded of what justice really means.

I'd also like to put some pictures from Iraq on the walls of the Oval Office.

9. How about working for impeachment.

Think long term.
Our government buildings are not like high schools at home comings and should not be treated as such.
For the most part the public, under this administration is barred from where you want to install your 'art' anyway.

Would it not be more realistic take your case to the people around you than to waste money on more symbols most people will never see?

10. You know, I think symbols are really important and also
I think it's important to put reality in people's faces.

Did you see the PBS show about how the poor tomato pickers fought Taco Bell? They tried everything for many years and what finally worked was picketing in front of the corporate headquarters--putting reality in the faces of corporate workers every day.

We really have to make it impossible for people with consciences to deny the reality of what they are responsible for. Nothing will work for the true sociopaths, unfortunately.

5. Welcome, Barbaraann!
Great post. Bush is probably planning to have all statues replaced with statues of himself.

8. Thanks!
We might get statues of Bush, Sr., Babs, Laura, Jenna, Barbara, Jeb, etc.

Here is a picture of the Bush Sr. statue at the Houston airport.
