Undercover From the CRNC : Canto II

Highlights, folks.

Bill Frist bestowed upon us CRNC'ers the honor of a telecast. After making a joke about how he's such a badass heart surgeon, the blond-headed belle in the row in front of me turned around and said, "He's good!" Yes, he's a pretty awesome doctor. Insert Terry Schiavo comment here.

Then a girl wearing pearls walked by. (Oh it's worth a mention all right.)

The girl wearing pearls walked by some dude rocking a polo shirt and sneakers, which is in itself worth noting at this kind of a gathering (casual? what?). Even more noteworthy than his crazy liberal dress, though, was the collection of empty Busch Light cans under his chair. I counted 6. Pearls. Busch Light. Pearls. Busch Light.

A little later, Tony Perkins from the Family Research Council took the stage, noting with courageous enthusiasm, "There are some things that are worth fighting for." He proceeded to talk about the Iraq War, and some very heroic veterans (give credit where credit's due, 'sall good). Then he said, "They're giving their lives as you're giving your time." Right. These (military-age) folks helped create this war, but they're letting everybody else fight it. The irony was lost on this crowd.

http://thinkprogress.org/2005/06/24/why-enlist-when-youve-already-stapled-so-much/

College conservatives are rallying in Virginia today for the College Republican National Convention. Our friends at Campus Progress have had a reporter inside all day, and he seems to have figured out why convention officials don’t think pro-war conservatives should be encouraged to enlist.

Apparently, at least according to Tony Perkins, it’s because being a right-wing campus activist is sacrifice enough.

You know, you’ve got a point there, Tony. Just like our soldiers are dying in Iraq, campus conservatives are stapling flyers for an Ann Coulter speech to a kiosk. Basically the same thing.

Repukes gave out a folder at this event.

First, here's the "Freedom's Source" document that comes in the hardcover folder they give everyone. (did you even know folders can come in hardcover?) The text:

"It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.

<snip>

Motherfucker, if being a soldier is so goddamn great, you can sign up at any recruiter you fucking choose. I see a bunch of healthy young men and women here. So why the fuck are they here and not at MCRD Parris Island or Ft. Jackson. If you love soldiers so goddamn much, go fucking be one. Take the oath. Your time doesn't mean dick. Not to the 11B's or the truck drivers or the ER nurses or surgeons or the orthopedics nurses. Your time? Fuck your time.

Tell that to the families of five women marines. They have to bury their barely out of high school daughters, and you want to talk about your goddamn time? Time. Let's talk about your service. You love this war so goddamn much, go fucking be part of it. They can have their families cheerlead.

Fucking cowards. Hiding behind people who's asses they aren't fit to wipe.

1. So true
They can spout "support our troops!" all they want but in the end their "leaders" turn around and screw them royally. "Supporting the troops" also means telling the truth about war!

3. Reminds me of a debate I once had with the CRs Pres at my college
Edited on Sat Jun-25-05 12:06 AM by friesianrider
We had a showing of F9/11 just before the election at my college, and the College Republicans President had a shit fit, so we agreed to let there be a "discussion" afterwards. He tried to pull this bullshit on me (I was the Pres of the College Democrats at the time), harping on supporting the war and the President and this was such a noble cause to fight for blah, blah, blah. I said "if you support this war effort so much, it seems only fair you should enlist. They need you to serve your country and your President's wishes. Why aren't YOU in the service?"

His response, said with a straight and angry face (honest to God truth):

"I can't enlist, I have ashtma." :eyes:

The whole auditorium erupted with laughter at this asshat. He's also the son of a former Congressman from Ohio. Typical warmonger who would shit his pants if he ever was shot at.

8. Yep...
Pathetic, isn't it?

There was a young man in the audience who, after the laughter faded, angrily said that his brother had severe asthma but was shipped to Iraq...and killed two months later. Sure shut that CR dickhead up, but I'm still waiting to learn of his enlistment. That reminds me to ask him about it next time I see him ;)

12. Lord they never cease to surprise me
One kid I know, navy brat, she was going over how much we have to fight this... I told her flat out, ENLIST.. tehy won't take me I have asthma... (In her defense she had other problems that may discualify her), but still the excuse, then she met my gaxe and asked

Oh I did show up with the AF recruiter on September 14 and asked to join, but they said no... they were willing to excuse many discualifiers (some the kind that will earn you a ticket out), until I reached the hubby is a Chief and he happens to be deployed at the warzone. Just like randhi pointed out today, we all wanted to do SOMETHING, but one of her callers pointed out, they did nto want us.. we may actually tell the truth... when the caller said that, chills ran down my back.

4. I would fight for noone and no war.
Edited on Sat Jun-25-05 12:06 AM by BMG
This is the only life you get, after this there is nothing. Consider the odds of a person even being alive, and the human race even existing at all. Going and throwing a life away for another persons desires is insanity. Being a 19 year old college student, if a recruiter came up to me and tried to recruit me; Id tell him to fuck off.

6. Recruiter - you have more chance of dying on a freeway than Iraq
http://nypress.com/18/25/news&columns/taibbi.cfm

<snip>

But if asking nicely doesn't work, the army is apparently ready to let loose some new rhetorical weapons. In a Knight-Ridder story last week, an army recruiter named Timothy Waud in Simi Valley, California, offered a new argument to the parents of America's young:

"(Parents) say they don't want to send their son or daughter off into danger," he said. "There's a lot of misconceptions about Iraq. Frankly, percentage-wise you face more of a risk driving on the freeways out here."

Military service in Iraq: safer than playing in traffic! Goddamn, I wish I had teenage children

5. You're Right
They are cowards, every single last one of them.

These young men and women will never need to wear a reflective vest if they should decide to go bike riding at, because the yellow stripe down their backs are so bright you can see them a mile away.

9. If they love and support the troops so much
I wonder why the R's have allowed a 1 billion dollar shortfall in veteran's health care. This is a big story. They do NOT care and we should be yelling it from the rooftops!

<http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/06/23/veterans.budget.ap/index.html>

snip...
The shortage came to light during a routine budget review. Lawmakers said they are still gathering details, but it appears health care for veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan and poor budget forecasting contributed to the problem.

A routine review. One billion dollars. Who will make them explain it?

10. One question: Were there any military recruiting booths at this
Young Republican convention? With the recruitment levels so low, it would seem to be a perfect place to increase the enrollment in our army and marines.

I'll bet that the military was only there as a color guard! After all, these phonies will end up making policy, not fighting for it.

11. These are fucking cowards!
I made my day the other day... freeper car, fully decked out, old man in it... I have a support the troops thing on the truck (and DoD sticker)

he says, you suport the war, GOOD!

I said, NO I suport the troops, bring the troops home!

Damn Liberal

Here you go old man, give it to your grand son, tell him to do his duty isntead of hiding! (That was a copy of the enlistment papers to the US Military, I placed the paperwork in his hands... all four pages of it) I have never seen anybody so angry in my life! As he started walking away, I said... "You made my day, piss off a conned man!" He had one of them lovely bumpers, make your day, piss off a liberal... then I added, more salt to the wound... "I hope you don't have to choose soon between dog food and your medicines, but you sure love your conn men, you sure do."

13. someone posted a link to freeperville the other day
it was a discusion about a draft. One kid said he tried to enlist but they wouldn't let him cause he was partially deaf in one ear. I was laughing my ass off as I read this. Doesn't this kid know all soldiers become partially deaf in one ear. Hell, most can't even hear for months when they get back from the war zone (my bro included)

These shitbags have a million excuses, but won't enlist cause they are a bunch of pussys.
