Edited on Wed Jun-22-05 04:23 PM by ls317
The first human case of West Nile virus for the 2005 season has been confirmed. The CDC reports that a 51-year-old person from Kansas contracted the virus which is spread by mosquitoes.

Last year, more than 2,500 people got sick and 98 died.

1. Just down the road
a bit. Actually, with a farm and horses and lots of rain I have seen very few mosquitos. I have not ventured to the ponds in the evening though.

Too bad.

2. West Nile ???
This diease has been found in various parts of the US. Over the past several summers is seems like some inroads should have been made by now against it.

3. The mosquitoes are REALLY bad here this year
Edited on Wed Jun-22-05 05:23 PM by doodadem
Because we had a much longer rainy season/winter in central CA. My horses are all inoculated for West Nile. But trying to work outside in the evening, both mosquitoes and flies seem to lick the flyspray off the dogs and me, and come back for more--even stuff with DEET.
