Strong reminder that you don't need "megachurches" to worship

For where two or more are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. Matthew 18:20

1. Yeah, but you can't show off
your newest clothes, or sit and balance your checkbook (as the wives of 'prominent' men did in the church I was forced by my parents to attend in my childhood did) in your room.

Duh. :eyes:

3. And you can't use the gymnasium, the bowling alley or the pool
Although you can have access to the snack bar and media room if you are accompanied by a deacon.

As an ex-minister I've preached at and belonged to megachurches. They are fundamentalist playgrounds, packed with all of the consumer goodies any red-blooded American has been taught to desire and completely tax-free, just as the Lord intended.

I have witnessed the Wal-Mart-izing of church.

It is very sad.

2. Is there a Starbucks
in her bedroom? If not, it doesn't count as a "church." Is she praying for self-enrichment? Nope? Well then, those prayers don't count.
</sarcasm>

Cute kid. I wonder whom the dolls are praying to? Their creators?

4. You know, I've never felt as close to God in a church as I have
in places like this:

Canyonlands National Park

Or here:

Grand Teton National Park

Or here:

Crater Lake National Park

I guess God is where you find him/her.

7. My late father-in-law was raised
a Catholic, but after several crises in his life, turned away from the institutional Church and felt the presence of God in the beauty of nature. Hard to disagree looking at those pictures.

5. My hubby gave me the evil eye last night after hearing our son and I
Edited on Wed Jun-22-05 03:42 PM by woodsprite
Hubby's playing on the computer when he overheard our son and I saying his bedtime prayers, when 5yo son says "Mommy, nobody knows when Jesus is gonna come back. You don't know, and I don't know, and Daddy doesn't know, and Nancy doesn't know" Nancy is our minister. I said "That's right. And if anybody ever tells you they DO know, then you know what you learned about them. That they don't believe in the Bible or know what God teaches."

I came out of his room, closed the door and hubby is standing there in the hall with this evil a$$ grin on his face. I said "Gotta start'em early" and left it at that.

Hubby's constantly telling me not to talk politics in front of our son. Of course. He feels that if they really do ever start drugging kids because they're free thinkers, then our kids are sure to get a script written for them. Of course, you ask our son who our pres. is and he says "Kerry, but Bush won't get out of the WH and let him move in." :)

6. You don't *need *a megachurch
But what fun is denouncing gays, 'ho's, single mothers, druggies, non-Christians and democrats if you don't have a huge audience to shout AMEN! ?
