cnn: 'he once was lost', promoting lost/found boy scout to SAINTHOOD
Edited on Wed Jun-22-05 01:09 PM by mopaul
all day they've been on this story as the number one story in the universe, ever. the power of prayer. the belief in miracles. 24 hours after the kid was found, it's still the number one story.

the kid's going to address the media any minute! oh boy, oh boy.

meanwhile, children in iraq are being blasted, exploded, shot, tortured, burned, orphaned, and utterly forgotten forever, by the THOUSANDS.

quick---somebody---cue 'amazing grace' on the ghetto blaster.

just trying to keep things in perspective here.

1. He is a perfect Aryan specimen!
The little-boy equivalent of Aruba Girl. The first thing his mom said was "Prayers are answered, children are found!" This boy is in perfect shape, and I've heard more than one commentator call it "miraculous."

It's just feeding the masses, and keeping the fundies' stroked and focused on something while they await The Rapture.

4. And my take on that is always
What about the hundreds of kids who are lost and never found, or are found dead?

Did their parents not pray hard enough?

19. The Little Girl In My Town Wasn't Found Alive
She was 3. They found her dead! Apparently only some prayers are NOT answered. Or maybe prayer had nothing to do with this kid surviving. No. That can't be it.

2. A kid got lost in the woods for a couple days
and then they find him. Miraculous wasn't the word I was looking for! Sounds like every plot for a Winnie the Pooh story........

3. I'm glad he was found; but the kid must not be much of a Boy Scout,
otherwise he wouldn't have gotten so easily lost. Jeez!

6. I think something might be wrong with the kid ... check out what cnn is
reporting ...

The parents of 11-year-old Cub Scout Brennan Hawkins said today their son "continues to amaze us" after surviving four days alone in the Utah wilderness. They said Brennan was taught to stay on the trail if he ever got lost and also not to talk to strangers, so "when an ATV or horse came by he got off the trail ... when they left, he got back on the trail."

http://www.cnn.com/

I mean - that's kind of retarted if you ask me.

10. So he wasn;t so much lost as hiding...
Sounds like the Runaway Bride. Maybe the authorities should now sue his family for the trouble.

Seriously, why aren't these people trying to save and praise children being bombed?

I have not heard one ounce of praise directed toward the strong and brave children of Iraq.

16. That's exactly right, he was hiding from the search and rescuers
Guess he got a bit hungry after 4 days and decided to talk to strangers

14. Agree....the kid apparently is not the brightest bulb on the string....
I'm glad he's okay and all, but the fact that an 11 year-old kid would hide from rescuers because he was told not to talk to strangers....that's just whacked out.

8. Oh come on Mopaul. Cut the kid some slack!
Fuck the press, and be glad the kid is home.

I can't imagine losing my son, even for 4 days.

Yell fucking hooray the kid is safe. Party hard, there's plenty of bad news to go around.

We always dump on the press for over playing bad news.

Lets all be happy there's a little bit of good to share, and excuse anybody for being excited about that.

11. I agree
I dreaded the day they would find him dead and I'm very glad he is alive.

Maybe this will make authorities work harder to find the other missing children who might also be alive.

just sad.

Why do we have to bitch about some good news? Makes me question what the hell I'm doing here.

12. because "good news" is not news
this was a local utah story. it should have stayed that way.

that it did not is further proof, as if we needed any, that the spectacle needs food constantly. human interest stories do best at distracting women especially from the important issues at hand.

and its not a miracle. it was a dumb kid & his dumb luck. my roommate fell down a ravine in the olympics for 2 days. when he limped out, it wasn't a miracle.

17. was your roommate 11 years old?
If my child was missing I would want to shout it from the rooftops. I would want everyone in the world looking for him or her.

I'm sorry but you all are finding way too much to be negative about.

And of course the children in Iraq deserve the same coverage. But don't blame the lack of it on this boy or his family!

20. no, he was 28
that doesn't change the issue. it was NOT a miracle. "prayer" had nothing to do with it - prove that it did. prove that it didn't. its irrelevant.

most of us here area critiquing the media, not mom & dad LDS, because this is the feel good story of the week. there will be another next week, and the week after that. there will be another celebrity scandal. there will be a stupid POS movie premiere. there will be a new diet. someone will call someone a nazi. a politician will lie. it never stops.

13. We are't the superior race
There should be at least one equivalent news story written about every child hurt by a bomb in Iraq. I think that's all we're saying.

should not be blamed on this boy or his family.

I'm fucking overjoyed this kid is not a casuality.

15. I hate to be mean but it was sort of the boy's fault that he was missing
for four days. He purposely hid from his searchers because he was taught to stay away from strangers.

18. Thank you for this post.
This has been driving me friggin' nuts all day. Yeah, yeah, yeah, we're all tickled pink the kid was found in good shape, but the vast majority of us DO NOT care if he asked for his Pokemon cards, played a video game on someone's phone, wore blue jammies to bed or anything else. ENOUGH ALREADY. THE STORY IS OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And as for miracles . . . ask the limbless Iraqi children about miracles.:grr:

from watching the news I was surprized they never mentioned how he came to be missing in the 1st place.

23. Gosh what will they do when they find Natalee?
I hope she comes home safe - truly I do.

But are these the only two missing kids in America? Or just the only two upper-middle class blonde-hair, blue-eyed white kids?
