White House Responds to Downing Street Memo
Link: http://witlist.blogspot.com/2005/06/white-house-responds-to-downing-
street.html

Snip: <Spokesperson says US did not fabricate evidence about WMDs

22 June +3:58 GMT

CNN---After six weeks of stonewalling, the White House has issued an
official response to the documents known as the Downing Street Memo.
This series of communiques, leaked from the British Foreign Office,
suggest that the Bush Administration falsified evidence of WMDs as a
pretext for the war in Iraq.

At a press conference in the White House briefing room, press
secretary Scott McClellan issued the following statement:

"Contrary to what has been stated in the so-called Downing Street
Memos,' the Bush Adminstration did not fabricate evidence of Weapons
of Mass Destruction prior to waging war on Iraq. We truly believed,
and some in the adminstration continue to believe, that Saddam
possessed chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons that posed a
grave danger to our country.

"But there is a perfectly logical explanation for the discrepancy.
Our intelligence was lacking. And when I say intelligence,' I mean
our collective, personal intelligence. We based our entire rationale
for war on information from a guy code-named Curveball.' How stupid
is that?"

McClellan noted that despite the fact the UN, France, Germany,
Russia, and Britain--our lone ally in the war--did not believe Iraq
possessed WMDs, the US continued to insist it knew the exact
location of the nonexistent weapons.

"We're just really, really thick," he said. "It's as simple as that.">

2. LOL
I'm sure they are going to keep repeating the line that everybody in the world that Saddam had WMD, even though that is not true, it's just that nobody has challenged them on it.

And apparently "some of them still believe he did." So where are they? Where's the proof?

4. Scott McClellan said: "...We based our entire rationale....
...for war on information from a guy code-named Curveball.' How stupid is that?"

I am both shocked and dismayed that McClellan admits to a collective stupidity in the White House. Very interesting!

And then he goes on to say, "We're just really, really thick...It's as simple as that."? Wow!

5. My god! A mea culpa (of sorts) from McClellan?
This is important. If the DSM's weren't getting to the admin, they would not have said this.

We're chipping away at them. Everybody needs to keep chipping.

Um, guys...

That's clearly a spoof news article.

Not to pick, but you all must not read very carefully if you all missed that.

It's obvious from the part quoted here but it's even more obvious if you read it in it's entirety at the link.

If anyone believes Scottie would say "We're just really, really thick", then I have a great deal to offer you on a bridge in Brooklyn.

6. Shifting the argument- the question is, did the WH want regime change
because, as we know from the memo, whether Saddam had WMD or not was not an urgent issue until Bush determined to go to war.

9. And how long before

The US suddenly finds a nice cache of Chemical Weapons or something? Only a matter of time before they 'find' some WMD's in Iraq. Than we will not hear the end of it...I give it 2-3 more days - tops.

17. welcome to DU
And, maybe about a year ago, some Middle Eastern news sources (remember the ones that broke the Saddam Captured story a few days before it hit the US news?) noted that the US was seen unloading some old Russian made WMD into Iraq.

11. Frankly, Scottie
I don't give a damn at this point. I want you and your guys out!!!

He says they didn't fabricate evidence of WMD. What a piece of shit he is! I don't EVER recall anyone making an accusation that they 'fabricated' evidence. What HAS been posed is that they cherry-picked the intelligence and dismissed or ignored what didn't agree with what they wanted to find.

As to the "we're thick", then fucking apologize and do it NOW! At least we can use the 'thick' comment from here on out! (example: Bolten's the wrong guy, but they're too thick to see it.)

15. This Alone
should be enough to drive this bunch out of office. We have a right to have intelligent, honest politicians in office. This explanation by McClellan does not make it better! It also shows how little this administration thinks of the public. Do they really think this explanation cuts it? Clap-trap!
