LINK to Durbins COMPLETE...
remarks ' apology' today-

Please read it in it's entirety- it is quite different than the 'sound bites' and media twists would have you think-

http://durbin.senate.gov/record.cfm?id=239278

and he does NOT apologize for his feelings about the 'policy' that this administration is advocating-

i have more respect for him than ever, after reading this.

1. Yes, he has class
Why didn't he bring up these interrogation techniques were approved by this administration and the troops were only following orders? Why the Mr. President garbage, when he knew this president ordered this treatment?

2. Nobody hears them, but the Young Turks, on Sirius Left, were going OFF on
this today, very correctly (and obviously, to anybody with more than Bush's Brain), taking the MEDIA to task for never, ever reporting the MYRIAD nazi parallels drawn by the likes of Grover Norquist, Frist, Santorum, Peter King (he had a long long list of examples, as did Tom Hartmann the other day), of just how we've been bomBARDED with rethug comparisons of DEMS to nazis, with ZERO media byplay

contrast this to the shitstorm Durbin, Dean, or ANY OTHER Dem suffers whenever they make any sort of "controversial" allegations about the fascists in power

thanks for bringing this up.

Durbin is my senator, and usually answers the bell; I'm glad to see what he actually said, cause the FASCIST MEDIA refuses, as always, to give the true picture of realit

4. my oldest son listens to sirius- and gets the young turks,
he's a hot-head, but i love him just the same-

Mr.McCain said that even Eichman (i don't think i'm spelling it right) got a trial- He was picked up by the Israeli's and stood trial for war crimes- McCain says we should re-think Gitmo- funny how he doesn't get dissed either eh??

3. perhaps because
he'd made his point- and made it so well, that it got the press and heat that it did originally?

As for the Mr. President, he's speaking with respect- as a 'gentlemen' would-

not the 'dead or alive' or the ' you people just gotta unnerstand we're uhhh, we're dealing with mad men here.... and er... uhh
now there's a major league asshole..."

Call me old fashoned- call me a prude- but i'd prefer a man who isn't beneath speaking in a coherent and respectable manner- it's kind of refreshing actually-

His point's still stand- and probably got more 'press' because people were so 'incensed' by his 'choice of words' than if he had not apologized- just 'blew off' the criticisim like Bush does-

5. Amnesty International can't use "gulag". Durbin can't say "nazi". Repubs
need to provide an acceptable list of words to use when decribing inhuman/illegal treatment of prisoners.

6. I totally respect him, BUT...
...why do Dems continue to yield complete control to Republicans? Did we hear any apologies from right wingers who made references to Nazis, etc.? Course not.

7. they don't really, but it's almost imPOSSIBLE to get their message out
can you think of a better, more ominous example than that of Conyers' hearings last week?

they've been almost completely ignored by the corpo-fascist media

that's exactly what happens almost every time, from the media's total whitewash Bush's egregious past during the selections of 2000 and 2004, to almost every aspect of the 'investigation' into 911, and everything that's happened since

they just don't get the chance to get their word out, and when they do, it gets twisted, ala Dean, and just these past few days, Durbin

I'd like to see the Dems INSIST they be heard, and INSIST the media cover what they have to say in more depth, or else (or else what, I know), but it seems a vicious circle
