Time to link up the scandals - Douglas J. Feith
Edited on Sun Jun-19-05 06:31 PM by burythehatchet
When analyzing conspiracy theories in your armchair, it is always a "eureka" moment when two scandals intersect. Why is that so important? Because the people who are the links are usually the ones who have the most to gain, and the ones who are usually committing the most egregious crimes.

One of those connections is Mr. Douglas J. Feith, Undersecretary of Defense for Policy

Douglas J. Feith led the Office of Special Plane, the spy nest set up by Wolfowitz and Rumsfeld to manufacture fake evidence against Iraq.

There's this from Slate magazine:
Start with Abu Ghraib. Feith's office was in charge of Iraq's military prisons, but that's not the only reason his name keeps turning up in newspaper reports about the scandal. It was Feith who devised the legal solution for getting around the Geneva Conventions' prohibition on physically or psychologically coercing prisoners of war into talking. As a Pentagon official in the 1980s, Feith had laid out the argument that terrorists didn't deserve protection under the Geneva Conventions. Once the war on terrorism started, all he had to do was implement it. (http://slate.msn.com/id/2100899/)

Here's a description of how Feith translates policy into money:
Feith's private business dealings raised eyebrows in Washington. In 1999, his firm Feith & Zell formed an alliance with the Israel-based Zell, Goldberg & Co., which resulted in the creation of the Fandz International Law Group. According to Fandz's web site, the law group "has recently established a task force dealing with issues and opportunities relating to the recently ended war with Iraq.and is assisting regional construction and logistics firms to collaborate with contractors from the United States and other coalition countries in implementing infrastructure and other reconstruction projects in Iraq." Remarked Washington Post columnist Al Kamen, "Interested parties can reach through its Web site, at www.fandz.com. Fandz.com? Hmmm. Rings a bell. Oh, yes, that was the Web site of the Washington law firm of Feith & Zell, P.C., as in Douglas Feith undersecretary of defense for policy and head of-what else?-reconstruction matters in Iraq. It would be impossible indeed to overestimate how perfect ZGC would be in 'assisting American companies in their relations with the United States government in connection with Iraqi reconstruction projects'."

His militarism-and close ties with the military-industrial complex-were evident in his policy work in the Pentagon working with Richard Perle in the 1980s and then part of the Vulcans along with Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, and Cheney in the Bush II administration; his work as a corporate lobbyist in the 1990s for Northrup Grumman along other military contractors; and his prominent role in the Center for Security Policy and in the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs (JINSA). His political orientation is distinctly neoconservative
(from http://rightweb.irc-online.org/ind/feith/feith.php)

To top it all off, his office was passing secrets to AIPAC, the Israeli lobby.

Let's recap, created phoney intel to deceive the American people, created the justification for torture, profited from the illegal war, and passed secrets to Israel. Not bad.

Do you pay taxes? Good, then you and I are still paying Douglas J. Feith's salary. I believe he is a traitor.

His filthy hands are in so much of what is criminal in this government...he should be getting his promotion soon.:(

3. The turd Feith is Cheney's money-funnel.
In addition to his "work" making war on innocents, Feith handles the dirty money for Sneer.

Cheney Coordinated Halliburton Iraq Contract: Report

Robert Sullivan
Agence France Press

WASHINGTON - A Pentagon e-mail said Vice President Dick Cheney coordinated a huge Halliburton government contract for Iraq, despite Cheney's denial of interest in the company he ran until 2000.

The March 5, 2003 e-mail, from an Army Corps of Engineers official, said that top Pentagon official Douglas Feith got the job of shepherding the contract, according to the newsweekly Time that hits newsstands Monday.

Feith had approved the multi-billion-dollar deal "contingent on informing WH (the White House) tomorrow. We anticipate no issues since action has been coordinated w(ith) VP's (vice president's) office," said the e-mail obtained by Time.

The newsweekly said it was three days later that Halliburton won the contract, although no other bids had been submitted.

SNIP...

The e-mail was sent "in anticipation of controversy over the award of a sole-source contract to Halliburton, we wanted to give the vice president's staff a heads-up," a Pentagon spokesman said.

5. Remember Richard PNAC Perle? He hit up Adnan Khashoggi for 100 MIL
Perle wanted to make his new "Trireme Partnerships" take off. The proposed $100 million dollar investment from Khashoggi would help launch the Carlyle Group-like investment group Perle founded.

The petromoney was not for arms, directly. It was for investing in companies that were going to be making a killing off of homeland security related areas. I kid you the heck not.

Interesting selling point: Perle already had secured financing from in from Boeing and some other bigwigs like Henry Kissinger.

LUNCH WITH THE CHAIRMAN

Why was Richard Perle meeting with Adnan Khashoggi?

by SEYMOUR M. HERSH
The New Yorker
2003-03-17

At the peak of his deal-making activities, in the nineteen-seventies, the Saudi-born businessman Adnan Khashoggi brokered billions of dollars in arms and aircraft sales for the Saudi royal family, earning hundreds of millions in commissions and fees. Though never convicted of wrongdoing, he was repeatedly involved in disputes with federal prosecutors and with the Securities and Exchange Commission, and in recent years he has been in litigation in Thailand and Los Angeles, among other places, concerning allegations of stock manipulation and fraud. During the Reagan Administration, Khashoggi was one of the middlemen between Oliver North, in the White House, and the mullahs in Iran in what became known as the Iran-Contra scandal. Khashoggi subsequently claimed that he lost ten million dollars that he had put up to obtain embargoed weapons for Iran which were to be bartered (with Presidential approval) for American hostages. The scandals of those times seemed to feed off each other: a congressional investigation revealed that Khashoggi had borrowed much of the money for the weapons from the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (B.C.C.I.), whose collapse, in 1991, defrauded thousands of depositors and led to years of inquiry and litigation.

Khashoggi is still brokering. In January of this year, he arranged a private lunch, in France, to bring together Harb Saleh al-Zuhair, a Saudi industrialist whose family fortune includes extensive holdings in construction, electronics, and engineering companies throughout the Middle East, and Richard N. Perle, the chairman of the Defense Policy Board, who is one of the most outspoken and influential American advocates of war with Iraq.

The Defense Policy Board is a Defense Department advisory group composed primarily of highly respected former government officials, retired military officers, and academics. Its members, who serve without pay, include former national-security advisers, Secretaries of Defense, and heads of the C.I.A. The board meets several times a year at the Pentagon to review and assess the country’s strategic defense policies.

Perle is also a managing partner in a venture-capital company called Trireme Partners L.P., which was registered in November, 2001, in Delaware. Trireme’s main business, according to a two-page letter that one of its representatives sent to Khashoggi last November, is to invest in companies dealing in technology, goods, and services that are of value to homeland security and defense. The letter argued that the fear of terrorism would increase the demand for such products in Europe and in countries like Saudi Arabia and Singapore.

The letter mentioned the firm’s government connections prominently: “Three of Trireme’s Management Group members currently advise the U.S. Secretary of Defense by serving on the U.S. Defense Policy Board, and one of Trireme’s principals, Richard Perle, is chairman of that Board.” The two other policy-board members associated with Trireme are Henry Kissinger, the former Secretary of State (who is, in fact, only a member of Trireme’s advisory group and is not involved in its management), and Gerald Hillman, an investor and a close business associate of Perle’s who handles matters in Trireme’s New York office. The letter said that forty-five million dollars had already been raised, including twenty million dollars from Boeing; the purpose, clearly, was to attract more investors, such as Khashoggi and Zuhair.

8. here's one of the bigger problems we have
Personally, I've tried to follow the Kashoggi connections since his name surfaced as a prominent player in Iran-Contra. Perle's name has become prominent (to me) only as recently as the 2000. My frustration is 1) trying to understand the web of money, arms, and lies for myself, and 2) be able to write about it or explain it in a clear and concise fashion. One reason is that these guys work under the protection of the US and Israeli gvernments so that many details are left hidden, the second is the apparent complexity of the relationships. But as my original subject line indicates, I believe that these guys are the nexus of many years of criminal and subversive activities. Then of course there's the third rail, One must never question or criticise Israel's motives lest they be labeled an anti-semite. Talk about a chilling effect.

I really believe that we would be well served if people like you and others on this board worked towards uncovering, understanding and exposing these guys. I've come to believe that we can do it.
