Jimmy Carter question
My mother insists that Carter said the UN should run the US. She claims she saw him on TV saying it.

I don't believe this and I would like to prove her wrong. Anyone know what she's talking about?

1. I doubt Jimmy Carter would even suggest such an idea...
although he is the world's number one proponent for human rights.

2. If he'd said this I'm sure the right wing machine would be on it
He probably said something about the UN taking a greater role in world affairs which she misinterpreted.

3. That's my guess...
but I sure would love to prove her wrong about it.

4. I think she took Carter out of context
"If we accept the premise that the United Nations is the best avenue for the maintenance of peace, then the carefully considered decisions of the United Nations Security Council must be enforced. All too often, the alternative has proven to be uncontrollable violence and expanding spheres of hostility."

Carter meant that the best option for global and prelonged peace is to enforce the decisions of the United Nations with regards to conflicts between nations.

5. No clue as to what she is talking about
and given his strong words for local democracy - when he was in Cuba (in essence, dissing Fidel) - the words make no sense at all.

Carter is involved in various democracy efforts (including an organization that monitors elections) - so again it is ridiculous that he would suggest that the UN would run the US (that is - UN is not an elected body of the United States... aka a democracy ...)

Probably some Rushian statement taking some comment or other far out of context - then reworded with Rushspin.
