A month ago Newsweek listed the top public high schools in the country. I cannot access the story online - gone to the archives and I do not feel like registering - but it appeared that 5 of the top 10 are in Florida.

Please don't tell me that this is Jeb Bush's work..

Or states that fully fund the tests. In my school, it cost me $175 to take the five AP tests for my senior year of classes, and at an inner city school, that simply isn't going to happen.

No. 1, BTW, is Jefferson County 1B, Irondale, Alabama

and No. 2 is International Academy from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan

11. Stanton Prep is a little more wealthy than the others,

however, Paxson is not anywhere near a wealthy school. I was surprised when I read that it was ranked so high. Good for all those students who worked so hard.

14. I may have misjudged the criteria then

Based on what I know, the highest ranked schools would be in areas with a few bright/hard-working kids and enough financial stability (including state help) to allow the tests to be taken. If you have to work part-time and aren't planning to attend college, though, this system will rate you very poorly.

Then ,the local PBS show about politics, etc., had someone on complaining about the lack of educated work force in Jacksonville!

4. It's all in the districting and whether or not they count the scores of

drop outs etc. His brother invented this strategy to make everything look great in Texas. If these scores are legit, success rates high and other criteria, I'd bet my left arm they are primarily in wealthy areas.

Alot of us here in Florida are able to dodge the Bush bullet. Hell, I was educated in the Florida public school system and managed to get a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry. He is trying his hardest to screw the state royally and has managed to succeed on many levels. Trust me, 2006 cannot come soon enough.

The Bushies managed to fix the elections down south to prevent Reno from winning the primary. The rumored front runner is Scott Maddox. He is the former mayor of Tallahassee and former head of the Florida Democratic party. We definately need a stronger candidate than him if we want to insure a victory.
