We'd like volunteers to field test a preview of our weekly Take Back the Media Radio Show! Come on in, the Bandwidth's fine...

"Starring American Stranger and Symbolman, it's a brand new 'We're not gonna Take It Anymore' Progressive Power Hour from the same Guys that brought you many poignant, educational, and funny Animations that are being imitated all over the web - they set the standard for political animations.

American Stranger hails from NYC and Symbolman from Southern California where thanks to the wonders of technology they can do their own shows while 2000 miles apart."

We'll be bringing many name progressives to the airwaves, and the web each week - we've even got Janeane Garofalo ready to do a special interview in the next two weeks - the beautiful short one that regularly hands Right Wingers their asses :)

We're in talks with BUZZFLASH for content as well - we're gonna bring the Progressive sites together and create the 13 Original CYBER COLONIES --

And that's what we plan to do - kick some right wing booty, come join us and let us know how it works for you.

5. I can't get Windows Media Player to work on my computer...

...or Flash either. Can you fix it so that we can listen with Real Player too? Like ieamericaradio.com does. That's how I listen to Malloy, who is the BEST talk radio show host EVER, in my humble opinion.

Real Audio is cost prohibitive for us, especially considering there are other solutions available. The Flash module should work with Flash plugins that are compatible with Flash 5 and later.

The Windows Media version doesn't appear to work with Macintoshes at this point; we're seeing what we can do to debug for that platform.

Their stream works great in all media players - WMP, Real Player, Quicktime, etc. on all platforms.

Please don't do something Windows exclusive - there are other options. Many progressives/Democrats find Microsoft's business practices offensive.

18. Understand that we're doing this on a shoestring.

We are basically doing this from our own pockets. IEAmerica has a pretty hefty RealMedia server.

Costs money. We're just a coupla broke liberals. ;)

PS: The flash link should work on just about anything, if you haven't tried it. You might have to update your flash plugin, but if you can see the TBTM flash movies, you'll be able to hear the show. Hope it works for you.

the file is an archive file - it's not a live stream due to the fact we're recording two guys on two different coasts and then assembling the show.

ieamerica is set up to use windows media or real audio.

right now we're doing windows media and flash (and flash is a macromedia product not microsoft). real audio is cost prohibitive and is not something we are interested in pursuing. we may possibly use shoutcast in the future running on BSD.

I understand the limitations you are facing, just request that if at all possible try alternatives to Windows exclusive - for some of us the thought of what MS has done/what they continue to do/what it has cost the industry/what it has cost Americans is something that prohibits further participation.

believe me, as a long time machead, windows & microsoft have always been an annoyance to me... plus i've seen first hand what they do to competitors (i worked for a software company that directly affected by microsoft and their business practices).

now why do you think microsoft would include a free streaming module with their web servers when real audio costs thousands?

i'm sure it's from the abundant kindness in their hearts. ;)

it's an option - and we're exploring all avenues. i really like quicktime broadcaster, but unfortunately, it's difficult to find a cost-effective hosting company that supports Apple machines. i've talked to many places, and the general attitude is that they support unix or windows servers on PCs - anything else, you're on your own, including if hardware parts go bad in your servers. i like to know that if something breaks on our web server, someone can fix it without me having to drive somewhere and fix it or have the site down for days.

to your great show. Are you guys going to do this everyday? Are you in contact with anyone involved with trying to get the mythical (as yet) "liberal" radio thing going? I have been hoping for that for a long time and listening to well thought out commentary such as your's and Mike Malloy etc. convinces me such a thing would be successful beyond anyone's imagination (except mine, of course).

44. We're hoping to do it on a weekly schedule.

A daily shedule would kill us, unless it were the only thing we were doing - which would require it to be a paying gig for somebody. At this point, we're brand-new and still figuring out exactly how to do it.

We'd love to be able to do talk radio for a living, but right now the old saying 'don't quit your day job' is a necessity. :)
