W Va. Supreme Court Gives Custody of 5-Year-Old Boy to Dead Mom's Partner"

Okay, I think this is a really important story. I posted it in LBN and it sank quickly. I'll take one more shot here.

For the first time in American history, in a disputed case, a homosexual has been given custody of her deceased parters' child. The court recognized the concept of a "psychological parent" and gave her custody in spite of the legal challenge from biological relatives of the birth mother. The biological father lobbied for the surviving mom.

Maybe its just me, but I think this is worthy of note.

And a special :thumbsup: to our friends in West Virginia whose Supreme Court made the ruling!

2. It's a sad, sad commentary on today's plague of hate and corruption ...

... that we'd take note of a rare glimmer of sanity. This should NOT be exceptional, and it shouldn't take a state's supreme court to rule on it.

6. My friend, as a southern, liberal Democrat I've learned to savor even

the tiniest of victories because they are so very, very rare where I live. You're right, this should not be exceptional. Its no more than basic logic and compassion but both those qualities seem to be in very short supply today.

Thank God, for the child's sake. A connection to one of the only two parents it has ever known is incredibly important, to say nothing of the significance of the legal win for the surviving mother. How would she had felt to have the baby she had raised ripped from her arms because of the untimely death of her partner?

That pain would have been damn near unbearable.
