3. Poet? No.
I've heard of a slam "poet" named Tammy Gomez, who is very good at performance and shouting out social issues. Of course, with 200 people competing for one page in literary magazines, it kind of pissed me off that she garnered a 12-page exhibit in Conjunctions Magazine, affirmative-actioned in by fellow Hispanic "poet" Sandra Cisneros.

No offense to either of them, but I don't consider poetry to be a hybrid between Arianna Huffington and Jay-Z. Slam poetry is the "American Idol" of poetry.

4. Thanks, I did google and I appreciate you all many times OVER!
Peace. I did google before I ever asked here.

So slam poetry is what again? The American Idol of Poetry? I'd love to hear more. Sincerely, no sarcasm intended.

That's exactly what it is to me.

Listen to it for yourself and form your own opinions.

9. Def Poetry Jam rawks.
I mean, of course there is an aspect of commercialism that makes me a little uncomfortable.. but that happens when anything is attempted to be elevated to mainstream. There are some amazing slam poets...Suheir Hammad, Beau Sia, Saul Williams, Talib Kweli, Black Ice, Eryka Badu, Lauryn Hill.. those are just the ones that come to the top of my head.
