Race Between Life and Death
Edited on Fri Jun-17-05 01:30 AM by ls317
Since his wife's brain stopped functioning weeks ago, since she was hooked to a ventilator and her cancer began spreading down to her neck, to her back and to the lymph nodes under her arms, Jason Torres said he's noticed relatively little physical change except one: Her belly keeps growing.
"She's becoming more noticeably pregnant," he said with quiet awe yesterday, sitting near the marbled cafeteria at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington.

1. I saw this story earlier today. He knows that she would not want
to be in the vegetative state that she is currently in - she would want 'the plug pulled'. He also knows that she desperately wanted the baby she is carrying.

He is torn, but thinking about what SHE would want.

If I were in a similar condition - I would want the same. I just hope the baby can make it for more than 28 weeks w/o cancer invading the uterus. It stands a much better chance, and will have a loving THINKING father.

2. From the Article
If the case brings to mind that of Terri Schiavo, Torres said yesterday, there are really no similarities, because he and Susan's family are in agreement over her treatment and because they have, as best as they can, accepted that if it weren't for the baby, she would be gone.

I am hoping that no-one (Republicans) Try to jump on this matter. And make this the new political football for them.... and attempting to gain more in-roads
I admire him for having the resolve to even talk with the media about his personal family story.
