TARGETS FOR WEDNESDAY, JUNE 15, 2005

1. C-SPAN
email: events@c-span.org
phone: 202-737-3220

Here is my letter to C-span:

Dear Sir/Madam:

On Thursday June 16, 2005, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Wasserman Room at 430 S Capitol St. SE, Washington, D.C., Rep. John Conyers, Jr., Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, and other Congress Members will hold a hearing on the Downing Street Minutes and related evidence concerning very questionable use of pre-war intelligence.

I would sincerely hope that you give full and live coverage to this event.

Sincerely,

2. Cox News Service, Washington Bureau Chief Andy Alexander
email: andya@coxnews.com
phone 216-999-4737
OR
Carl Rauscher, Washington Bureau News Editor
email: crauscher@coxnews.com
phone: 202-887-8307

3. Arizona Daily Star, Managing Editor Teri Hayt
email: thayt@azstarnet.com
phone: 520-573-4226

We’re contacting C-Span again to urge them specifically to televise Rep. Conyers’ hearing on Thursday and the rally at the White House afterwords.

Cox News Service owns an important newspaper chain. Cox reporter Ken Herman wrote a good introductory article on DSM on June 8th (printed in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution), but the Cox Washington Bureau has not followed through as one would hope and expect. Likewise, the Arizona Daily Star has printed only a single article mentioning the memo (though the paper has had some pointed letters to the editor about DSM).

After a month of an almost total news blackout, the media is now beginning to report on this issue. It is up to us, their customers, to force this issue into the center of public discourse. Use the banner above to link to Awaken the Mainstream Media! from your website or blog.

This is my standard letter:

Dear Sir/Madam:

As you know, on May 1 of this year a document now commonly referred to as “|The Downing Street Memo” was released into the British Press. This document raises serious question about how the administration was handling intelligence related to Iraq and appears to suggest that the Bush Administration had already decided on war when publicly it was claiming that no such decision had been made.

This document suggest that the Bush administration was determined to “fix intelligence” around a predetermined policy.

It is most disturbing that there has been a virtual media blackout regarding “The Downing Street Memo”. Even more disturbing is the absence in the America media of any credible discussion or coverage regarding strong, credible and independent evidence that the Bush Administration intentionally mislead the U.S. Congress, the media and the American people.

I do hope you will accept the responsibility to address this issue and provide serious investigative journalism into this matter.

Furthermore, on Thursday June 16, 2005, Rep. John Conyers, Jr., ranking minority member of the House Judiciary Committee, and other House members will hold a hearing to consider testimony concerning the Downing Street minutes and questions of possible fixing of prewar intelligence. I do hope you will be giving full coverage to these events.

Sincerely,
