2. Oh, but it IS true...
I will have to do a search, but I remember quite distinctly when this story came out and how shocked I was that they had already been preparing for this. It was all masterminded by Cheney by the way. Give me some time to look this up, but you WILL be surprised... she is TELLING THE TRUTH!!!

Please note... this is DOD's website (above)

Brown & Root Services, a division of Kellogg Brown & Root, Arlington, Va., was awarded today a $16,000,000 task order under a previously awarded cost reimbursement, indefinite-delivery and indefinite-quantity construction contract for construction of a 408-unit detention camp at the Radio Range area of U.S. Naval Station, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Units will be of modular steel construction. Each unit measures 6 feet 8 inches by 8 feet and includes a bed, a toilet, and a hand basin with running water. Work will be performed in Guantanamo Bay and is to be completed by April 2002. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The basic contract was competitively procured with 44 proposals solicited, three offers were received, and award was made on June 29, 2000. The total contract amount is not to exceed $300,000,000, which includes the base period and four option years. The Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Atlantic Division, Norfolk, Va., is the contracting activity (N62470-00-D-0005).

9. NO NO NO!!! Damnit!!!
Edited on Tue Jun-14-05 04:51 PM by Just Me
One phase of the prison was awarded in 4/02 and another in 7/02.

Oh, for crying out loud.

Search "N62470-99-D-005" in google.

A general construction contract was awarded back in 6/00. The various projects were not to exceed $300M.

NUMEROUS contruction projects have been awarded since then.

Y'all need to slow down and examine this stuff a bit before making bizarre connections. Please. Okay. I'm saying, please. *on knees*

that contracts to KBR/Halliburton for Gitmo construction might date back to 2000 ...

I had emailed Cong. Waxman back in January 2005, after reading the OP (of the DU link below) telling ...

"Jan 9, 3:58 PM EST, Guantanamo takes on look of permanency,
By PAISLEY DODDS, Associated Press Writer,

GUANTANAMO BAY NAVAL BASE, Cuba (AP)
--
The U.S. prison camp for terror suspects is taking on a look of
permanence as the mission marks its third year Tuesday, with plans for a new $25 million prison facility, $1.7 million psychiatric wing and a permanent guard force." ~snip~

The OP link to the AP article is no longer; however, a google finds it elsewhere, i.e.
http://shininglight.us/mt/archives/2005/01/guantanamo_take.html

... I wrote Cong. Waxman inquiring about how many contracts/millions does it take for KRR/Halliburton to build at Guantanamo ... I shared w/the congressman this post:

"another $25 million, I'm guessing to KBR/Halliburton?"
