11. This action just PROVES that Howard Dean was right, we should
capitalize on this. The GOP really doesn't care about Blacks, this vote proved it!!!!!

8. Pretty sad that these Repugs (and Conrad) couldn't even vote for this
Can't even bring themselves vote for the empty symbolic gesture to make George Allen look like he gives a shit about black people before he runs for President resolution? Afraid it might not play well with their good ol' boy constituents?

"Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., the Senate's only black member, said, 'I do hope that this chamber also spends some time ... doing something concrete and tangible to heal the long shadow of slavery and the legacy of discrimination so that 100 years from now we can look back and be proud and not have to apologize once again.'"

14. He's going to be added as a co-sponsor.
He had CAFTA and base closures and about a million other things on his plate. A mistake and an oversight, but an honest one.

need to know before I raise a stink.

16. It wasn't a roll call, so all we have is the co-sponsor list
I'm from North Dakota, but originally from N'wawlins, and I'm going to call Conrad's office and give them an earful. I think an apology is in order.

As an aside, anyone else remember the map of lynchings in Harpers (back inside page) a decade or so ago? It was amazing. You could identify every population center in the south clearly from the clusters.

Except N'wawlins.

Hey, it ain't perfect (as the recent spate of stories about racist yahoo bouncers and bartenders in teh Quarter), but it was also perhaps the only major black concentration city to avoid riots in teh 60s.

It guess we really are the Big Easy.
