I feel for the family, she was found dead... but that is hardly a story of national importance

Now on the I am a stupid american and proud of it, at the coffee shop they were talking about it... and one of them with pride announced, I have no idea where the Caribean is or Aruba... I drew a quick map, and then took the chance to tell them this is a non story... now the downing street memo IS...

They had that look of the Downing Street WHAT?

17. just glad it's over,
I suppose I've learned most everything I know about the case in the last half hour because I've ignored it up to now.

There were hundreds of hours of testimony from dozens of witnesses.
How can anyone sitting at home second guess the verdict without hearing what they did? It's a waste of time. The jury system was created to be fair, let's hope it worked that way in this case.

20. Except, when I am thinking of Paula Jones
Yes I know that just because I walk in the bad part of town at 2:00 am does not mean that I deserve to be mugged, but one has to show some responsibility for one's actions.

When Paula Jones was invited to a man's hotel room what did she expect, a poetry reading?

And after all that we know about Michael Jackson, what did the parents expect, since the child was not expect to make an informed decision of his own?

21. Did you know
about the CD called Plunderphonic? What it is is manipulations (like remixes only more so) of extremely familiar music, to try and make it somehow more of what it is. The guy that did it, John Oswald, did a version of Michael Jackson's "Bad" that did some really interesting things to the pulse, both to emphasize it (during the verses) and to screw it up (in the choruses). He did a couple dozen other pieces too, of such cultural icons as the Beatles, Beethoven, Stravinsky, Count Basie, and the 101 Strings Orchestra. (Nothing if not eclectic.) He also gave copies away free, because part of his reason for doing it was to encourage a dialogue about the most creative possible uses of sampling.

Somehow Michael Jackson found out about it, and sent lawyers to screw Oswald over. (It could be because the cover art was Jackson's head and leather jacket from the "Bad" album cover, superimposed on the nude body of a white woman.) They made him turn over his master tapes and all the copies he had in his possession, which they then proceeded to roll over with a steamroller :-( Had the case come to trial, Oswald probably would have prevailed in a "fair use" defense, but he was a nobody, and couldn't afford to fight the sheer quantity of lawyers Jackson could throw at him.

35. You just said it - "discuss." This is a discussion board. Those that
are not interested in a subject can 1. not read it. 2. Put the whole thread on ignore. 3. Put the person that posted the subject on ignore.

Those that are interested can read the thread and comment if they want to - or not comment if they don't want to.

Seems pretty simple to me.

36. my story
I was hard at work in my office and I hear the office staff start moaning loudly. One of them (they are all Bush voters- not the sharpest knives in the drawer) comes into my office and asks loudly, with her hands on her hips and a disgusted look on her face, "DID YOU HEAR????"

I feigned ignorance and said hear what.

"That Michael Jackson got off!' She said, in full dramatical fashion, ending with a scowl and "I am soooo pissed!"

I sat for a second in silence staring at her, trying to comprehend her vast ignorance, and quietly said "I don't care about any of these celebrity trials, you must have me confused with someone who does"

She looked extremely offended and stomped out.

Now, in closing I would like to say just one thing. I will be happy when someone comes into my office and asks me a question somewhat like this: "Did you hear that over 1700 US Soldiers have now died in Iraq" OR "Did you read about the Downing Street Memo?"

Is it just a pipe dream?? Can mankind be saved?

Must we always put up with this insane-sensualized media and the spoon fed pablum gumming sheep that watch it?

If only a kick to the teeth were an acceptable answer for some of my daily interactions with Bushees.

Do Freepers care about this verdict? I have never expressed curiousity about anything on that board before, but I am suddenly interested to know what perverted anti-liberal spin they're putting on it. Not curious enough to go over there of course. This case plays into their hands, distracting attention from the unpopularity and wrongdoing of their leader.

sentencing, prison, etc.

I'm sure the Corp media is pissed because this story is essentially over. They will drag it out for a couple of days but then it will die down.

Hopefully, Conyers' Hearing on Thursday will be the beginning of the next media firestorm. We can hope.

57. The real question is what to do about malicious prosecution...
Edited on Mon Jun-13-05 06:19 PM by gmsage
...since that is still an issue. At the very least, Tom Sneddon should be tarred and feathered for this serious abuse of process. I believe more strongly that Sneddon should end up like his bretheren Nicholas Bissell, who blew his brains out in a Reno hotel room in Nov. 1997 after being convicted on corruption charges.

He certainly should not be allowed quietly retire after pursuing Jackson based on the shoddy case that he built. Obviously he planned on retiring either way. But how many other lives has he ruined? This case sure casts doubt on his character, and should send up red flags about his past cases. What about defendents without Jackson's ability to hire adequate counsel? Sneddon cost the taxpayers of the state of California millions of dollars, and now he's immune. Fuck that shit.

I am not a Michael Jackson fan. I do think his Thriller album was musically sound. Personally I think he's a wierd dude, but that's hardly grounds for prosecution. I'm happy that Jackson was exonerated. I've felt all along that the only thing he's guilty of is an immature personality. Not all that unusual condidering that his own childhood was stolen by fame, and his father's relentless pursuit of it. I pity the poor fuckin' guy, even with his millions.

80. Email to my friend today re: "news"
Jackson verdict about to be announced. The media whores are creaming in trying to beat each out as the audio feed from the courtroom is about to be opened so the world can hear at once...oh...here it is:
Not Guilty on ALL counts! Jackson Acquitted!

OK...so now can the press get back on topic of real and urgent information? Such as over 1700 troops dead (not to mention over 10,000 wounded, and thousands of innocents wounded, maimed or dead) in Iraq? Can more press time be given to the Downing Street Memos and the acts of possible treason as performed by Bush, Cheney and Rove, and the need to remove Rumsfeld from all duties? (Nice mental picture of removing Rummy from having a life on the outside...)

Can we see a little bit more info on the 1930s DC-3 cargo plane that crashed into a Ft. Lauderdale neighborhood where the pilot and co-pilot escaped, but it's still unknown of the conditions of the possible other three passengers on that plane?

Oh well...guess no REAL news today....the TV news, every news talk show, with the hopeful exception of Air America, will focus and cream on the verdict, the after effects for Jacko, and probably will do in-depth reports, interviews, and analyses of all the jurors, the town, etc. accompanied by many repeat shots and sound bytes of Jacko... The media has spent tons of money hedging on the verdict; They ain't gonna let go of this bone anytime soon.

Another day same as most other news days....another don't-give-a-damn media whore BS day...

85. Betty Bowers

Michael Jackson is back at Neverland. Do you know where your prepubescent son is, dear? Yes, dear friends, Michael Jackson is free. Honestly, white people get away with everything! So, one more jury has found someone "not guilty by reason of celebrity." Surely, you are not naive enough to be surprised, are you? As Paris Hilton has proved, even being an inane, drugged-out, pornographic whore is utterly laudable just as long as we recognize your vacant mug from a weekly magazine. So, once again, it is cookies and porn time back at Neverland. As if young Hispanic boys didn't have enough to worry about with Catholic priests lurking around every confessional booth!

Goodness me, it's enough to drive a gal to Jesus Juice!

It amused and titillated the masses. There are countless critical issues that need discussion - but Michael Jackson's trials and foibles are a diversion.

104. Can I ask a question about moderator rules?
Ok, I have a question. Just prior to the verdict announcement, I posted a message that slammed Nancy Grace of CNN, who never met a defendant that wasn't guilty.

I essentially said something to the effect that she was probably diddling herself like a sex-crazed howler monkey in anticipation of the verdict, and described my loathing of her.

This message was promptly deleted from the thread, and I was informed that it was a violation of forum rules.

Several other posters saw the message, and found it incredibly amusing, and wondered why something no more filthy or provocative than an average episode of Desperate Housewives would be yanked so quickly.

So then I see this thread. I see liberal use of the word "fuck" in this thread, as well as joking comments about fucking Michael Jackson. Why is this thread not yanked?

I am in no way offended by this, as I use the word "fuck" like a comma in everyday speech, but what is the deal with the moderators on this board?

First, Jackson's lawyers have ALREADY appealed the verdict, by accident (they figured he was goin' down FOR SURE, baby!)...
And second, NEW info has emerged:

Michael Jackson Has 17 Assholes!
http://presidentevilonline.com/holes.html

Do you realize what this means? How can we hope to have a fair and impartial judicial system in this country when SOME people are walking around with multiple assholes, and others don't even have ONE???
I'm sorry to be the one to have to inform yas all, but it's NOT over...
:scared:
It's only just BEGUN!

ps: I don't really give a fuck anyway... he'll get his when he gets to prison (eventually) and they find out what a crowd-pleaser a man with 17 assholes can be...

are just the kind of people who helped elect Arnold. For them celebrity is everything. Just as I expected the news media is second guessing the DA's office for bringing the case in the first place...HELLO!!! Couldn't you have reported that before the trial? If the evidence was that flimsy then why bring it to trial at all? Everybody will now write a book, and some will end up as made for TV movies with Valerie Bertinelli starring as Micheal and everybody wil make alot of money because that's the American way. What was the question again? BTW this is my official 1000th post. Beer and pizza are on Shrub.
