Enough of MJ, I am pretty grossed out about the reaction here, but we'll have to agree to disagree and move on.

So why haven't I heard jack from folks in Chicago, NY, Miami, DC, SF about the millions against the media march. I need people to get permits, I need people on the ground, but no DUers don't give a fuck about media reform, I forgot.

How bout helping us draft the Democratic Contract with America? You don't even have get off you ass for this one, but no, hardly any help.

Have you called you senators lately?

Have you written a letter to the editor lately?

Have you done anything?

Now just to prove that DUers are more talk than action this thread will drop like a fucking stone.

3. I guess I need to start seeking support elsewhere
maybe media matters or dailykos, cause DUers, with the exception of those that are actually working their asses off (you know who you are), don't do shit but complain.

2. Wrote a particularly snotty LTTE to NYT regarding frank Rich's article
yesterday. It will never be printed, but I only have a few more weeks on my subscription before I cancel and write the really nasty letter. Called Biden this week to complain about his Dean comments and made a donation to DNC this week. And what have you done?

14. Ok, I canvased door to door for local democrats in our recent election
Edited on Mon Jun-13-05 05:28 PM by Melodybe
and I poll watched all day election day. We retained our majority and picked up a seat. Thank you.

I am fundraising to send the Ole Miss College Democrats to the National Convention in Washington.

I have written countless emails to newspapers and media outlets to cover the downing street memos.

I have called and written upteen Senators and Congresspeopl regularly to speak up about the DSM.

I am trying to build an executive board for the neighboring county's democrats.

I have a weekly dem table on the 7th most conservative college campus in the country. Where I talk to everyone that comes to my table about the evils of this administration, I have gathered over a thousand signatures for verified voting, citizens against the draft, and support for HR 181.

I send links to every important article I find to everyone on my email list.

And that is just this month.

I could go on, I do a lot.

15. Do you want a medal?
Jeebus, some of us are busy, y'know, and we do what we can, when we can. No one needs you to berate them into action. If it's important to them, they'll do something. You're not going to get anywhere with that attitude...Maybe you should read TahitiNut's post downthread...

Edited on Mon Jun-13-05 05:33 PM by Shoeempress
November to canvass every weekend with hubby worked all day on election day from 7:30am to 11 pm as there was a hand count of votes. Donated lots of money, Held signs, Protested Cheney, Bush et al when they arrived in town, drove for Edwards when he came to town, helped out at the Derry for Kery event, wrote numerous LTTEs during the campaign and since, send monthly donations to DNC, DNCC, and local dems, and more things than I care to list. But to end the pissing contest, what did you do this week?

7. Surfing DU and Kos does not count as real activism
I wrote two environmental essays and arranged a speaker. I wrote somebody in the media last week, but I cannot recall the subject. NPR gets so many love letters from me that they probably have me on an email filter.

Some people actually grow out of the "Look Ma! No Hands!" phase of their emotional growth. (I aspire to it some day.)

11. Actually, I disagree with you on the MJ verdict, but in the past week
I've written Senators, Reps and the DNC. If you go back three weeks, you get LTTE.

Do you really think that attacking fellow DUers as being slackers because you disagree with the outcome of a verdict is justified?

Get a grip.

16. Exactly!
Who has the right to criticize what others are doing? Nobody knows (unless we share) how we behave offline. Whether we are active in our community or not.

As for the MJ verdict, of course feelings are running rampant about that. He's been accused of child molestation. That's not an easy thing to swallow for many.

and stop bashing the common folk who are doing everything they can in their impotency.

More talk than action? How droll. Your diatribe sounds like a "sell" to me, and frankly I am tired, very tired of "sell"

23. i am pretty thrilled if a fellow citizen is informed
Edited on Mon Jun-13-05 05:35 PM by seabeyond
dont dismiss so casually the people that come on this board to gather information and know what is going on in our government knowing we cant trust the news to give us news. and knowing so many of our citizens dont know shit what is happening, nor do they care. being informed is pretty powerful stuff in and of itself and doesnt warrant being dismissed so casually by you

yet the people that do come here to be informed get dissed by you because they are not doing enough.

i dont think a single person owes you a list of what they do or dont do

personally i dont give a shit about the mj stuff, waste of my time anyway, why i dont have my news on and why i come to du to get political information

24. What "Millions Against the Media" March?
Your post is the first I have heard of it. There is no mention of
it in either the Activism or the Media forums that I can find.
You might want to post there.

Advanced Search is turned off due to all the MJ traffic.
Google shows an earlier post, at the start of Memorial Day weekend.
I had to follow link after link, but eventually I found it.
Many of us never saw that post for obvious reasons.

just had a great idea!!! Feb. 1, 2006 the 10th anniversaryof the Telecommunications Act of 1996. That is when we should organize to hold Millions Against the Media protests in NY, DC, Atlanta, and San Francisco.

So since I could actually go to the one in Atlanta, are their any DUers in Georgia that could help me plan this one?

New Yorkers, DCers, and those in Frisco, I can't help but you get the idea.

What do you think? It's befor the 2006 elections and if their is really millions at each march Jon Stewart will surely give us props. We can get this to happen if the folks at AAR, DU, Daily kos, Salon, etc help promote it.

What do you think? I think that it is a great way to highlight when our problems with the media really began.

I'd take it a bit further. In addition to the protest, everybody
boycott everything else made by the companies that own the news.
That would be most of the major record companies, all the big TV
and radio networks, of course, and anything else they or their
parent companies do, for one day. Just so they know that we know.

Boycotts really scare them. They always try to explain them away as
"market conditions" but they do work.

25. Type A combines with activist mentality

I read somewhere in my studies that movements need angry activists to both jump start them or keep them honest to the original impetus. Most people I know are not like this and are awed by the intensity and constant activity of the "A group". It doesn't come naturally to me, I know. I use DU as an information conduit, for discussion and to keep informed or to educate others. That's my "Do" for now. My husband gets additional info from me and writes to Congress, etc. all the time to express his opinion. That's even better. Energy follows thought.

I'm doing more than you are. You are a slacker, na,na,na. I don't need to defend what i'm doing, nor do you. We all have to help the cause the best way we can. Don't make us pit one DUer against another. That's the last thing we need.
