China's Industrial Pollution?
It occurs to me as I read of more and more production of day to day products taking place in China that we may have traded our production capability for their fresh air.

If China's energy demands have been so great as to double the world price of oil over the last few years it must follow that their pollution by emissions has ramped up at least as fast. In the mean time decreased manufacturing activity is at least in part responsible for improved air quality in the US.

India? Same thing.

1. Pollution is a major problem in China.
Very, very serious. There was a National Geographic article on the subject a year or so ago. I recommend it.

Basically, China is going through a major industrial revolution. Their pollution problem is essentially like the one we had fifty, sixty years ago. It's following a natural curve and will decrease over time.

2. Their Pollution Has Been Bad for Awhile
Lots of coal. Lots of industrial production. Eventually, China will clean up as it industrializes. It's getting rich enough quite rapidly.

3. Go over the the Environment & Energy thread if you have time
I've been posting lots of articles on the deep environmental shit in which China is now fermenting. It's really, really bad.

4. Pollution so bad that
they are having problems manufacturing some electronic components. Certain pollutants can screw up electronics - they can create bridges between parts that should not be connected, for example.
Failed boards that then go in the garbage heap.
(We are talking about once quality products made in the US now manufactured in China.)
