Need Help with a LTTE
My sister emailed this morning this LTTE in the Indy Star:

"Clinton talks now but didn't act then
In his June 8 speech in Indianapolis, former President Bill Clinton stated that America needed to establish an energy policy and become less dependent on oil. He said this would help keep the country safer and help the environment and economy.

When he was president, if Clinton had adopted an energy policy, we could be reaping the fruits of it now. In the 12 years since the start of his presidency, America could have been out from under the stranglehold foreign oil has on us. His administration's failures have brought us to where we are now: further polluting the environment, a terror-filled world and $2 a gallon at the pump.

Tom Hornung

Indianapolis"

My sister is a freelance writer and would like to reply to this LTTE but, she needs some more info to debunk it. She will need sourced information as she's a stickler about these things, as we all should be. Anybody want to help out?

1. If your "sister is a freelance writer", then she already nows how
to gather data for an article. If she just wants to be a freelance writer, then one of the first things she needs to learn is how to gather data for an article.

3. She is a freelance writer
She does PR writing for a local college in the Psych department. No need to attack her for not knowing where to look for POLITICAL writing. Sheesh...you'd think I was asking how defend Bush. She asked for help, she's never been involved in politics and wanted to get an idea of where to start. Thanks for being so damned supportive.

9. It kills me...
We constantly try to bring new people to the political table. I finally get my sister to do something. She's a fantastic writer and her help in any way will be a blessing to our cause. She finally sees something that she wants to act on, asks for help in responding to a rediculous LTTE. It just so happens to not be my area of expertise but, hey, I know a great place to ask for help. DU! But of course instead, I get this:

"If your "sister is a freelance writer", then she already nows how
to gather data for an article. If she just wants to be a freelance writer, then one of the first things she needs to learn is how to gather data for an article."

She's just writing a simple response to a LTTE. There are many kinds of freelance writers out there.Certainly she knows how to gather information regarding Psychology, the United Way (She's a board member) and issues regarding Planned Parenthood and Habitat for Humanity. All her causes.

What you insinuated was that I either 1. lied about her being a freelance writer or 2. that she wasn't a very good one.

Why can't we all just help each other out instead of questioning every motive or statement that's been made?

11. Relax. You stated your sister was a freelance writer and that implies
some level of knowledge about research for articles.

If you had said she wants to write her first LTTE, then I would have responded differently.

Good luck to her on her first LTTE. :hi:

2. What, she has more integrity than the fuckwit who wrote the LTTE?
Edited on Mon Jun-13-05 02:04 PM by 0rganism
She can start by telling the "Blame Clinton" crowd that they've had a republican congress since 1994 that was fully capable of enacting any energy reform policies it saw fit, with or without support from the Clinton administration. When we had a Real President(tm), gas was down around $1/gallon, thanks to his understanding of diplomacy, balancing power, and regulating trade. Now that we have Crap in a Cowboy Hat, gas is over $2/gallon, and all the GOP dipshits can do is blame the last elected president who did his job under some very difficult constraints, such as an 8-year $90-milliion$ open-ended investigation into every aspect of his life.

Feel free to ask Mr. Hornung and his ilk why the big investors in these gas companies that have spiked their prices, ostensibly in the face of reduced supply, can walk away with such amazingly huge-ass profits.

5. Start here...
http://clinton4.nara.gov/WH/new/html/Tue_Oct_3_130025_2000.html

The article mentions how Congress only approved funding for 12% of CLinton's plans for renewable energy and alternative fuel sources.

He did put forth a plan, the Republican Congress blocked it.

12. Nice information site
"CONGRESS HAS FAILED TO ACT TO IMPROVE AMERICA’S ENERGY SECURITY: The Republican leadership has failed to act on key elements of the President’s long-term energy policy, including: tax incentives to consumers for the purchase of energy-efficient cars, homes and appliances; comprehensive electricity restructuring; and reauthorization of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Over the past seven years, Congress has approved only 12 percent of the increased funding proposed by the President for energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Now, the Republican leadership wants to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling – despoiling one of America’s last wild places for a short-term supply of oil. Furthermore, they continue to cut programs critical to meeting our long-term energy needs"

I found this pretty revealing
