Now if we REALLY knew how to frame...
...here's how we would play the whole "party of white Christians" comment.

Republican Outrage Machine: How dare Howard Dean say that the Republican Party is the party of white Christians?

Democratic Framing Task Force: So are you saying that white Christians are not welcome in the Republican Party?

ROM: No!

DFTF: So then you are the party of white Christians.

ROM: But...we have lots of people in the party who aren't white or Christian!

DFTF: Is that because you think there's something wrong with being the party of white Christians?

ROM: No! We just think it's important to have a big tent, and--

DFTF: So is your tent big enough to include gay people?

ROM: Uh...sure. Sure it is.

Coalition of Loony Christian Right-Wing Groups: We are outraged that the Republican Outrage Machine has knuckled under to pressure from the liberal media and claimed that gay people are welcome in the Republican Party. Our divinely appointed spokesman, whose media statements come from the mouth of God himself, wishes to reiterate that gay people are not welcome in the Republican Party or indeed anywhere in this God-fearing land with the possible exception of our projected but not yet completed mass re-education camps in Death Valley.

ROM: Shut up, COLCRWG, I'm trying to frame here.

COLCRWG: Actually, what you're doing is blaspheming. Witness to our gospel, bitch, or we're gonna paddle your electoral ass till it's got more welts than Dobson's corduroys.

DFTF: Hey ROM, do you know these people?

ROM: You stay out of this.

DFTF: You want some help breaking that chokehold?

ROM: Shut up.

DFTF: Hey, is that rumbling I hear the sound of people running like hell out of your big tent?

ROM: I don't like this game any more.

Well, we can dream,

The Plaid Adder

3. Republican Big Tent
That big tent idea is a joke. Most of them hate homosexuals, and I read somewhere that 99% of their party is white. The RNC quote: "Abolishing slavery. Free speech. Women's suffrage. In today's stereotypes, none of these sounds like a typical Republican issue, yet they are stances the Republican Party, in opposition to the Democratic Party, adopted early on."I highly doubt these are typical Republican issues.

5. The GOP Is The Party Of EXTREMIST White Christians & If Dean/Dems
Edited on Mon Jun-13-05 12:20 PM by cryingshame
had a grip on their rhetoric, that's where we'd go.

Also, the GOP is a diverse group... it encompasses both the urban wealthy elite who own most of the nations' wealth and the rural poor who own most of the nations' debt.

12. It's the party of the top 2%, those who imagine themselves in the top 2%,
and those so blinded by xenophobia and jingoism that they vote against their own wallets for the greater glory of the top 2%.

It wasn't always exactly that way, but that's the way it is now.

6. Excellent.
While this post caused some laughter, it IS very educational!!!
You should send it to ALL Democratic represenatives who might appear on the CorpoMedia. This is an excellent example of reframing and staying on the attack!

This tactic is easy when truth is on your side.

10. Howard Dean, George Lakoff, and framing
If you haven't already, you must read George Lakoff's little 2004 book: "Don't Think of an Elephant" about framing the debate and about how to use language. The book is a distillation of several much longer, more scholarly books by Lakoff, but every DUer should have a copy - it is only 124 pages. Howard Dean wrote the foreword. Knowing this, you will realize that he is not a "loose cannon" but is using Republican techniques to put them on the defensive.

16. I saw George and Howard talking at the Take Back America Conf....
and saw George say "I would like to talk with you sometime soon"... to which Howard says "that would be great, let me get your info.. and get my number..." to which his aide right there writes a number or the back of a card and gives it to him... Howard then says "call tomorrow... thanks." and turn away to someone else. (Howard was surrounded by people after his speech) So its highly likely that Dr. Dean has a plan and is getting good help crafting it!

oh the tides are turning..

come to DC on thursday everyone.. if you at all can!!! Support Conyers.. Impeach bush!

17. For me nothing any dem has said comes even close
to the VP telling Sen. Leahy to GFY on the Senate Floor. I have seen several segments about 'that loose cannon Dean' on the shill shows, but I don't remember much of anything being said about a comment far more inflammatory by Cheaney.

The shills don't even pretend to do the smell test before they start ragging on Dems.
