Divide and Conquer?

Maybe I'm just all hyped up after my summer African Ethnic Conflict class, but I can't help but notice similarities between how dictators "divide" and conquer their countries by pitting one group against another as a way to rise to power - the ultimate goal literally being civil war. My Mom has been telling me for a year now that we are going to have civil war in this country over not just Bush but basically the fundies and their psycho-followers vs. the thinking people of this country. Do you think this is the ultimate goal of Bush & Co? To see the country divided into two groups seething hatred for each other as way to keep power?

2. It's a common tactic with fascist dictatorships.

With the Nazis, they scapegoated the Jews. With us it's the Democrats or liberals that are being scapegoated. I mean if I were a Martian and had obtained a tape of Rush Limbaughs show and one of Ann Coulters books, and that's all I had to judge a culture, I would have thought liberals were slime of the worst description.

And you can't "reconstruct" something until AFTER it's destroyed.

5. On Friday I witnessed a shocking event.

The disrespectful way Senator James Sensenbrenner (R-Wisconsin) conducted the patriot act hearings (on C-span)was so un-American. It vividly exposed the hubris of the whole Republican powerstructure toward the minority party, Amnesty Int, Arab-Americans, Afro-Americans (witness his horrible treatment of Sheila Jackson-Lee) and muslims. This may actually be the first salvo in the eventual splitting of the "united" states. Northern liberals wont go that far, but I hope, I HOPE the Southern Baptists push secession. Gov Rick Perry has "invited" all Texas gays to leave the state. Some Alabama congressman wants to burn or bury all books that mention the word "gay." And North Carolina ministers want democrats expelled. Oh, and the prize belongs to Kansas, with its most famous fag-hater the "reverand" Fred Phelps. There is some active group in South Carolina that is pushing to become the first "God-ruled" state and the capital of the new south. Unfortunately it looks like gay rights may be the primary issue, paralleling the slavery issue of 150 years ago. Let all free-thinking southerners move to the north and be part of the new US where we all will be truly free, and let Falwell, Dobson, and Robertson run Dixie. Bush can be puppet forever.
