"We couldn't revive him, now how are you going to pay for this?"
One memory that Dondo has of this day {just before Thanksgiving 1985}, was when {his mother} Lillie and Dondo arrived at California Hospital, where Harrison {his father} was taken, two Doctors came out and said "Are you here for Harrison, we couldn't revive him, now how are you going to pay for this!" It was realized then, that these doctors didn't really care and feel how important he was and how much he was loved, but were thinking of the money.

Charming, eh? ('Harrison' was Harrison Lapahie, a WW2 vet and one of the last of the Navaho Code Talkers who baffled the Japanese)

(More at http://www.lapahie.com and very interesting, too)

1. My god, that's horrible.
I'm just blown away that anyone could be so cruel- especially someone who had the desire to get into health care. What a horrible way to treat one of true heroes.

2. I'd say "He's dead beacause of your incompetance.
It was HIS problem and now he's dead. You're not going to get a single DIME from me. Try to get it from HIM you BASTARDS!"

3. The last thing my doctor thinks about
is "who's going to pay for this?" if someone comes into the clinic and they are in desperate need of medical attention. Ye cats and little fishes! Those doctors sound like they took an oath to Merrill-Lynch instead of the Hippocratic oath!

4. I would take that with a grain of salt. People's memories during these
kinds of traumatic times are often jumbled. No doubt they asked about financing during the visit, but probably not as quoted above.
