For the Sake of the Fallen, Let's All Pretend that the War is Just
so mothers and fathers don't have to go to bed at night with the words 'died in vain' in their heads, for the sake of all those young men and women with one or two less legs or arms or eyes, let's just pretend that they are permanently disabled for a good cause.

for the sake of those who have sacrificed all for their nation based on lies and greed, let's pretend that they died for freedom and democracy and making america and the world safer instead.

let's have a WAR ON REALITY, using flowery language from highly paid hacks to cover up the horror and pointlessness of this and future wars on the horizon. let's declare victory instead of admitting failure, let's focus on the good aspects of the war, instead of the unpleasantness.

let's throw out 'quaint and archaic' concepts like making sense, or being logical, and just go with the flow, and accept the official white house edicts and big lies as easily as we accept santa claus.

for the sake of the tens of thousands of faceless iraqi people of all stripes who have been blasted, burned, poisoned and shot, let's all tell ourselves that it's just, and good, and purposeful and legitimate, and honorable.

for the sake of america's very soul, let's pretend there is a shining city on the hill run by good people who are looking out for our best interests, and keeping us safe and happy.

2. not to be cruel to those who have lost
but that's the freaking problem. that people have convinced themselves that the war is just because the alternative (the truth) is to horrible for them to consider. it horrifies me daily.

4. the truth is way too ugly to face. let's just mask it
let's repress reality, if we can conquer nature, and common sense, we can conquer the world of the real.

5. For the Sake of the Fallen
We must pile new horror on top of old. For the Sake of those Fallen from a year ago, this year's fallen must fall. And for Their Sake, someone's child MUST FALL TODAY. And Tomorrow. And Forever.

So that your grandchild Will Not Have Fallen in Vain.

7. You have just explained the right's belief system
better than I have ever heard it explained.
The truth does not matter if they can paint a pretty enough picture of who they the good, moral, Christian, right wing, Americans are. And of course if that pretty picture is to be believed then anyone who disagrees with their picture must be evil, immoral, satanic, leftist, terrorists.
Kicked & nominated so more can read.

8. Don't say "Christian"...
We NEED those folks to vote with us! How we accomplish that, the Dean bashers can't say.

War is Good. Why, just think of how all those dead are with Jeebus now!

Except the Iraqi dead, they're in Hell, I guess....

Buy more ribbon magnets for your rusted-out mini-van and cutesy Magic 911 Teddy Bears for the top of the Teee-Veeee that you watch FAUX Nooz (they're Fair and Balanced, didja know that?) with....

9. let's pretend that jesus would've approved of all this
and we absolutely MUST pretend about heaven and hell. imagine those sand monkeys and their allah promising them 72 virgins in the afterlife as a reward for fighting the infidels, how ridiculous.

hell is for liberals, and heaven is for hypocrites, liars, pirates and war criminals

13. I consider myself a Christian.
I am talking about their picture of lies, that IMHO includes that they are behaving like Christians.

16. No argument there.
If Jesus ever did come back, he'd take one look at the Foulwells, Dobsons, Robertsons, et.al. and say "Who ARE you people?"

10. Therein lies the dilema
How, exactly, do I tell the father of a fallen soldier that his son did not die protecting America? That his son did not die for our freedom?

In his grief, that's all he has to hold onto. Do I take his last pillar of comfort away? Would he believe me anyway?

I grit my teeth and stare off into space whenever I hear the funeral cliche played out over and over and over again.

I'm torn between respect for the soldier who died out of loyalty to his commander-in-chief and rage at the lying commander-in-chief who used the kid's life as a pawn in his evil game.
