Sandra Day O'Connor for Chief Justice?

Isn't it about time we had a woman? I think we should start a movement to promote her.

She was, afterall, appointed by Reagan. And while I think most here would like Ruth Bader Ginsburg better, she has no chance. O'Connor would, in my view, be a better chief justice than Scalia, who is the likely front-runner.

The only reason she hasn't is because of the chimp getting in.

Plus, the pick is Fat Tony. The fix is in. The Supreme Court is a fully owned subsidiary of the GOP....any liberals or independents on the court are like parsley on a dinner plate...purely show, and of minimal impact to their agenda.

4. Except that she's likely to be the first or 2nd out the door

depending on when Knuckles Rehnquist and Stevens decide to call it quits.

She was talking retirement back in 2000, and has been on the bench nearly 25 years - dunno whether CJ would be enough of a carrot to keep her on board for a few more years. Besides, * needs to go hard right to keep the whacko wing of his base happy.

Unfortunately, it looks like Scalia is the most likely candidate.

Scalia is the most likely "suspect." But I think that, if there is any chance of avoiding that, it would take the form of a groundswell of interest in naming one of the women on the court to the top job. If there is enough interest, the GOP might go for it so as not to alienate suburban women voters. It's a long-shot... but could be worth it.

Because Scalia is such a troll that the Dems might actually try and filibuster his appointment. O'Connor would be perceived as "moderate", because she voted to trample all our civil rights by installing Smirk, but she's not a total Nazi because... um... gimme a minute...

A Scalia filibuster would probably trigger the Nuke. After all, (so the "logic" would go) he's already been through the process once - kinda hard to build a nonpartisan / non-ideological case against him at this point. And if the D's rolled over for Brown, Owen and Pryor, what suggests that they'd balk at Scalia?

Besides which, there's absolutely no constitutional basis for any kind of grassroots movement to decide who gets appointed or "promoted". That is solely the perogative of whoever occupies the Oval Office. Then the Senate gets to either give or withhold consent to that choice. End of story.

I registered a couple times and tried to post things that seemed to me to be within the bounds of their debate. Each time, the message was deleted within 5 minutes. I think they basically delete anything that does not fit a certain mold.
