GlobalResearch.ca: US/Israel planning joint action on Iran
Edited on Mon May-30-05 05:56 PM by JohnyCanuck
If Chossudovsky (an economics professor at the University of Ottawa) is right, and these planned attacks go ahead all holy hell is going to break loose. If Iran manages to sink a couple of ships across the Straights of Hormuz and blockade the Persian Gulf, just see what happens to the price of a barrel of oil, $100/barrel or more I would guess.

According to Chossudovsky these attacks will involve cooperation from Turkey, the ex-Soviet states in the region and probably NATO as well, either overtly or under the table. Buckle your seat belts boys and girls. Knowing that the same bright sparks in the military planning department who brought us the current Iraq fiasco are probably planning this new adventure, doesn't lead to any feeling of reassurance that things will work out for the best, that's for damned sure.

Planned US-Israeli Attack on Iran
by Michel Chossudovsky

<snip>

Israel is a Rottweiler on a leash: The US wants to "set Israel loose" to attack Iran. Commenting the Vice President's assertion, former National Security adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski in an interview on PBS, confirmed with some apprehension, yes: Cheney wants Prime Ariel Sharon to act on America's behalf and "do it" for us:

"Iran I think is more ambiguous. And there the issue is certainly not tyranny; it's nuclear weapons. And the vice president today in a kind of a strange parallel statement to this declaration of freedom hinted that the Israelis may do it and in fact used language which sounds like a justification or even an encouragement for the Israelis to do it."

The foregoing statements are misleading. The US is not "encouraging Israel". What we are dealing with is a joint US-Israeli military operation to bomb Iran, which has been in the active planning stage for more than a year. The Neocons in the Defense Department, under Douglas Feith, have been working assiduously with their Israeli military and intelligence counterparts, carefully identifying targets inside Iran ( Seymour Hersh, http://www.globalresearch.ca/articles/HER501A.html )

Under this working arrangement, Israel will not act unilaterally, without a green light from Washington. In other words, Israel will not implement an attack without the participation of the US.

but I've long worn a :tinfoilhat: so there's not much on his site that would upset my sensibilities.

Chossudovsky is an economics prof. at a recognized Canadian University and my understanding is that Globalresearch.ca was started as a web site by Chossudovsky to explore issues surrounding globalization, but the site also examines topics such as the alleged Bush administration complicity in 911 and the role the 911 event plays in enabling the US to crack down on dissent with the ultimate goal to implement a form of one party rule and martial law in the US and to use the war on terror to implement a global US hegemony as per the neo-con PNAC plans.

For those who can't bring themselves to believe that the US Government and/or Bush administration were involved in intentionally permitting the 911 attacks to go ahead, or even worse, having a role in planning the attacks, they could probably write off much of his material as the ravings of another conspiracy theorist.

9/11 and the "War on Terrorism"

Selected articles and essays

by Michel Chossudovsky

As the election campaign unfolds, the "war on terrorism" has become the main if not the sole election issue. Ironically, Osama bin Laden has become a central figure of the election debate.

Whatever it takes"… said President Bush:

"We will fight the terrorists across the Earth, not for pride, not for power, but because the lives of our citizens are at stake."

Senator Kerry has promised to do even better:

"As President, I will fight a smarter, more effective war on terror. We will deploy every tool in our arsenal: our economic as well as our military might; our principles as well as our firepower."

In other words, the tragic events of 9/11 are being used by both political parties to galvanize public opinion in support of America's war agenda.

9/11 is being used as a justification to wage a pre-emptive war against "rogue states" and Islamic terrorists, which are "threatening the security of the Homeland".
