If you haven't watched TV this morning, then you won't know where I'm coming from.

But hey, don't get me wrong, I don't have any problem with Danica. She's probably a great lady, and maybe I just can't quite grab the historical aspect of this.

It's just the way the press is blowing this up on TV this morning like it's something monumental that's going to change the world, just because she finished 4th in a car race. Good gawd, she's getting more press on TV right now than if the war had just ended.

It would be one thing if it was her own idea to pursue racing or something, but being that her dad is a former racecar driver and guided her along the way...well what's the big deal? It's not like this is some lady who accomplished miracles because she decided all on her own to pursue the sport with no outside influence.

Anyway, what a great day for this country! LOL!!

2. No I don't think it is. For any rookie to do as well is a big deal!
The fact that she's a female is news in the Indy circle.

As to her Dad coaching her all the way, that's a very common practice in racing. Look at all the Juniors there are on all the rosters!

11. Thanks, but the reason I know nothing about her
and have never heard of her, is that's the way I want it. ;) I'm sick of the "info-tainment" networks ignoring the important issues for this kind of bullshit. Michael Jackson, Scott Peterson, Coby Bryant, The runaway bride, Robert Blake and now "Danika"...:eyes: WHO CARES?! I don't. Not when we have an illegal war going on, soldiers dying, innocent Iraqi babies being murdered, a raging deficit, 45 million with no health care, millions unemployed, Social Security under attack, the filibuster being assaulted by the RW religious wacko nut job Jesus freaks, the RW religious wacko nut job Jesus freaks trying to annihilate our Judicial System, The Downing Street Memo smoking gun for IMPEACHING the asshole idiot-in-chief and so much more. Danika is more important to those info-tainment network assholes?.... C-SPAN and OnDemand TV are on my TV, all the time. I get my news from DU, C-SPAN and the internet. Danika is nobody and will remain so. :hi:

Thanks anyway.

5. Modus Operendi: DISTRACT!
I agree. When this is a lead story on Memorial Day weekend with a war raging, soldiers and civilians dying, their priorities are really skewed.

6. Pretty much what I was thinking, too
and what better way to distract by using a beautiful young lady in the "sport" of car racing who didn't even win. What war?

7. You two need to take a break.
I went on a 30-mile bike ride yesterday. Am I to believe that the Organizers of the ride put this on to "distract" everyone from The War the Never Ends?

There's still 499 other Channels of Mass Distraction on the Glass Tit to watch.

Just heard stories on the radio about a guy from New Mexico that just made it to the top of Everest for the 6th time, and a guy in FL who tried corrugated plastic instead of plywood last hurricane season...Guess those are intended to distract and confuse too, eh?

You don't need to piss in Patrick's Wheaties, there's plenty of Good Ol' Boys in auto racing in line ahead of you.

17. Nice try...
Each and every week at least half the hours I spend making a living are spent outside, many times more.

In my spare time in the last week, I've hiked up two mountains in the Adirondacks with my wife and have gone fishing twice, not to mention things like mowing and putting up a retaining wall at our camp.

Is that enough "getting outside" for ya?

9. They've run 89 of these things...and she's the first woman to ever lead
the race.

Did Amelia Earhardt get any press? Sally Ride? Yeah, maybe it's not as big of a deal, but it's not insignificant.

I'm sorry her story is intruding on your world. If you don't like it, change the channel.

14. So you're comparing her to Amelia Erhardt & Sally Ride?
That's real funny.

Anyway, I wasn't simply bashing Danica. Read my OP again if you think I was. I was getting on MSM's case for sensationalizing something that I think doesn't rate it for reasons I already mentioned.

As far as changing the channels, I tried it 3 times and it was on all those channels, too! So I turned it off.

10. It is more legitimate news story than....
the 'runaway bride', Michael Jackson, and other fluff stories, imo. She has made history in a sporting event and one that is overwhelmingly dominated by men. I don't have a problem with it unless 3 days from now it is still a major story like the runaway bride was.

12. good for her...
i know next to nothing about the indy 500 or forumla one racing in general, but i know enough to know that being a driver has to be a extrememly technical and stressful job...not to mention the extreme level of competition.

for a young rookie to do so well should be commended...add to that the fact that she's a gal in a male dominated sport...good for her.

13. It is the highest finish for a woman at Indy
Like it or not, it's news.

Now if they carry it over another day, then yes, it will be overkill. But it just happened less than 24 hours ago, so what's the prob?

16. No problem, not now. I was just asking.
I guess I just thought that the amount of time they gave to it this morning, was overblown, considering she already comes from a racing family and all, and I don't think it's all that incredible a story to get so much airtime. It's just me, I guess.

You're right, though. I should've taken into account that it only happened 24 hrs ago.

15. Marketing....pure marketing
Half the population (women) have been less than keen on racing. A huge untapped market.

NASCAR racers have even commented on her. It's all about getting the attention of sports minded women. $$$$$$$

Need I say more?
