4. Oh great, just what we need
The maker of one of the worst computer systems teaming up with the maker of the worst OS to make a national ID system. Great, just great. Why do I get the feeling this is going to cause more problems than it solves.

5. Apparently, most consumers, not to mention experts, don't
agree with your analysis.

7. LOL, you must be looking through those magic rose colored glasses friend
I know a number of IT techs and other computer geeks, and there is no way in hell that they would buy an HP for their own use, much less hundreds for use in schools or companies. Too unreliable, too many problems and breakdowns.

As far as the MS OS goes, well, yes, it is in widespread use, frankly because it is in widespread use. Compatibility issues are at the forefront of many IT professionals mind, so they aren't going to spring for something that isn't compatible. But do they really like it? No. Very buggy, huge security issues, suseptible to many many viri, easily hacked into, etc. etc. I don't think that very many people actually like the MS OS, I think it is more of a tolerance for it, they put up with it because they have to.

Sorry to pop your bubble, but neither mentioned product is getting rave reviews. In fact both products are getting panned. You may see it a different way, but that is the fact of the matter out in the real world.

8. You take your (non-existant) reviews and I'll show you market share.
I am the IT manager of a Fortune 500 company and we have been partnered with the number 2 pc manufacturer (HP/Compact) for 11 very successful years. You take your fantasy and I'll settle for the money.:toast:

10. 11 years?
And you still didn't work out that the company's name was "Compaq"
not "Compact"?

That says something about Fortune 500 companies ...

(Ok, just couldn't resist!)

12. HAHAHA, you're basing your opinion off of market share?!
Gee then, if that is the case, then Chevy trucks must be the best running, longest lasting, least repaired vehicles in the business:eyes: They're not friend, and neither are HPs. Market share doesn't mean squat in terms of reliablity and longetivity, since many factors, including cheap prices go into the figuring of market share. In fact all market share means is HP has managed to sell a system at a cheap enough price, with a glitzy enough ad campaign that consumers will be blinded by the cheap price enough to overlook the shoddy quality.

By the by, how many of your HP systems are actually eleven years old? Do you have any left? I've got a Mac that is eleven years old, and with a minor upgrade it is still purring along just fine. Got any HPs doing that?

9. I second that.
I run a "rent-a-geek" service at college... fix people's computers and whatnot. Guess which brand I have to fix the most?

Yep.

HPs.

And that's not because everyone has them. Most people I know have Dells. Yeah, granted, my completely unscientific study might be flawed, but still...

11. Oh thank God!
You know, I was actually worried for a little while about all this ID stuff. But to find out that it's Microsoft that will be running the software, well . . .

A Microsoft haiku:

Yesterday it worked
Today it is not working
Windows is like that
