Just remember, most current Repuke leaders and pundits
Edited on Fri May-27-05 10:53 PM by Maestro
never even served in the military. They are simply chickenhawks. The thread honoring the vets made me rememeber a bit of info that I copied a while back from here at DU. I can't remember who posted it, but I thought the info was good enough to save. So remember these facts when the repukes are claiming their psuedo-patriotism and spewing comments about how much they support the military. Democrats actually have served this country. The repukes either ran from duty or took very "easy" assignments.

Democrats:

* Richard Gephardt: Air National Guard, 1965-71.
* David Bonior: Staff Sgt, Air Force 1968-72.
* Tom Daschle: 1st Lt., Air Force SAC 1969-72.

* Fritz Hollings: Army officer in WWII; Bronze Star and seven
campaign ribbons.
* Leonard Boswell: Lt. Col., Army 1956-76; Vietnam, DFCs, Bronze
Stars, and Soldier's Medal.
* Pete Peterson: Air Force Captain, POW. Purple Heart, Silver Star
and Legion of Merit.
* Mike Thompson: Staff sergeant, 173rd Airborne, Purple Heart.

Star with Combat V.

* Walter Mondale: Army 1951-1953
* John Glenn: WWII and Korea; six DFCs and Air Medal with 18 Clusters.

I was flipping channels tonight and I saw that asswipe Sean Hannity tear into a guy about how his freedom of speech was a gift from the military. When you consider he never put himself in harm's way, the hypocrisy reeks to no end.

God Bless America. Maybe she'll come back someday.

2. Excuse me! I'm sorry, but I have family who served during wartime
and, while they might be republicans, they served just the same as the democrats. I understand your need to point out famous republicans who didn't serve, but to call all republicans chickhawks does a great disservice to all those who wore a military uniform. Do you think that in the heat of battle people really gave a shit about political affiliation? They were "brothers in arms." Let's honor all of our fallen men this Memorial Day weekend, not just the democrats.

4. I'm with you on this.
Regrettably, some of my relatives who have served in the armed forces have been Republicans. But they, too, served honorably. I would hate to see their service disparaged this Memorial Day weekend because of party affiliation.

6. I agree, while I am completely against the Bush admin's foreign policy
I feel that those poor men and women in uniform have been grossly deceived by our government. They should not be faulted because their emotions run high and their love of their country is too great. The whole world has been duped by Bushco, some of us are just a little quicker to recognize it and it is up to us to show others the fraud that is Bush. It does that cause a great disservice and only creates divisions when you "call out" republicans like that, in fact it is what Bushco wants.

I can see how some would claim that I might be anti-troops
but really I am not. I support those men and women. They enlisted and are following their orders. I just hope they come home soon, safe and sound. I am not mad at them. I am furious with our leaders. Big difference.

ultra-right freepers. Don't read more into my words. It wasn't meant to offend anyone. I simply pointed out the hyprocrisy of the current batch of rethugs. I too have family members, great uncles, cousins who are republican and served well in the military. Do you think I want to bash the military or leveled-headed republicans? Of course, not. I have many friends who are republican and joke around all the time. This post was simply to show the hypocrisy of the current batch of repuke, PNAC, neo-con freak leaders!!!!!!!!!! Period.

16. We have to remember that not all Republicans are
Neoconservative Chicken Shit HaWks. Real Republicans are not leaders of Death Cults. Real Republicans do not believe in looting the treasury for personal gain.

My point is that the enemy is the Rabid Radical Right wing Nuts not the republicans.

They are starting to awake to this fact themselves.

FCK the ChickenHawks. Lets take our country back.

35. There was no politics when the shooting started.
We were just Americans not Democrats or Republicans. Politics was never discussed, we had enough to worry about without politics being involved. I am sure many of those I fought beside and shared grief with turned out to be Republicans but at the time it was not an issue.

41. I think the point to consider here is about the Leadership, not
the people who just vote Republican. It's these Republican Leaders who never served who are so anxious to send our brave military men and women to be cannon fodder. Perhaps if they had any idea what War is really like up close and personal, they wouldn't be so gung-ho to wage it at the drop of a hat.

And although I agree that Memorial Day shouldn't be political, I can't help to think about how many of these same leaders aer the ones who want to cut veteran's benefits and soldier's pay.

When I think about all of those military families that have to resort to FOOD STAMPS just to make ends meet... :nuke:

8. I can see you bashing famous Republicans for not serving
and quite correct and I commend that part of your post but to label every Republican a chickenhawk is nothing but utter BS. My uncle served 30 years in the US Marine Corp was a lifelong Republican. He saw his first action at the Chosin Reservoir during the Korean War. I served in the US army during the First Gulf War as a member of a M-1 crew I was the only Dem in my vehicle crew. When the shooting starts no one give a shits what the guy next to them has as a party on their voter registation card.

and fight the wars they stir up, the chicken hearted chickenhawks are always too busy practicing richcraft, to do their duty for Gawd, Country and Major Oil Companies! Let's face it...Chickenhawks, nor any other kkkind of shitbirds, have never had any BALLS of any kind! Gawd didn't issue the Chickenhawks any Balls, so they must depend on the red blooded American working mans sons, who do have a pair! I don't know why the Chickenhawks are so afraid of getting their balls blown off, when any ninth grade science student can tell you, that chickens nor chickenhawks never have had any real balls to begin with!

who are AWOL right this minute! Look at the example their "leaders" in the GOP have set for them! Even Bush/Cheney's Balls were AWOL back in another "time of war"! Where was the GOPer's "Patriotism" when it was their turn in the barrel??? When I see Bush strutting around in those bits of military uniforms like Hitler or Saddam or Bush's new buddy Momar strutted, I could PUKE!

This is not related to the actual topic at hand but I remember going over to the Damage Plan website when Dimebag Darrell was shot and killed. At the website many muscians posted their condolsences. Everyone had flattering comments about Dimebag and how he will incredibly missed. The mofo Nugent posted something to the effect, and I am paraphrasing, "He was a big fan of mine, blah, blah, blah" Anyhow, when everyone else was posting things that praised Dimebag this asshat made himself the center of attention by saying that he didn't respect Dimebag rather Dimebag respected Nugent. What a creep!
