Right wingers everywhere are hanging their hats on the claim by the Pentagon that the prisoner who made the Koran desecration complaint has retracted the story.

No neutral parties are allowed to validate this claim, or investigate any of the controversy independently, of course. It's a "trust us" kind of a thing.

The military has not only been dishonest to citizens historically, the recent news is loaded with reports of improper recruitment tactics, the Tillman fiasco, that Guantanamo Bay is a modern-day "gulag" according to an Amnesty report released this week, the trials from Abu Ghraib and new FIFA actions releasing yet more deliberately concealed photos and ON and ON and ON...

I can't imagine how dumb someone has to be to take anything the military says at face value, yet right wingers everywhere treat military statements like they do radical biblical interpretations -- as unquestionable snippets of truth.
