CBC Fifth Estate program on Dick Cheney last night. Watch online

Last night The CBC program Fifth Estate re-aired on the CBC Newsworld channel a documentary on Dick Cheney's role in the Bush administration. This episode was first broadcast in Oct 04.

It's available for watching on line now, in case anyone is interested. The program delves into Cheney's draft doge....er, ahem, creative draft avoidance during Vietnam, and Cheney's rise to power in Republican administrations.

It mentions the lie Cheney told the Saudis prior to GW 1 that US satellite photos showed Iraqi forces massing on the Kuwait/Saudi border preparing to invade Saudi Arabia. This little gem of disinfo was used to pressure the Saudis into inviting in the coalition to defend them from Saddam's allegedly iminent blitzkrieg attack. There is an interview with the journalist who showed that story to be false by purchasing commercial satellite photos of the same area which proved the whole thing was just a hoax.

The program talks about Cheney/Halliburton profiteering by selling oilfield equipment through Cayman Island subsidiaries to Iran and Iraq when supposedly they were under embargo by the US government, and also the profiteering from the no-bid contracts to rebuild Iraq. Also it strongly implies that Cheney is the one calling the shots in the Bush administration.

Here's a link http://www.cbc.ca/fifth/dickcheney/

To view the documentary go to the above page and click on one of the links in the page Ascent to Power, The Secretary of Defense, The Halliburton Years etc and then on the page that opens up you'll see near the top a link to view the documentary on line. Or just try this link: http://www.cbc.ca/fifth/video_player.html?cheney The documentary is available in Quick Time or Windows Media Player versions.

After watching, you might want to drop Fifth Estate a line here http://www.cbc.ca/fifth/contact.html and explain to them that since the gutless, corporate media whores in the US are too scared for their jobs (or maybe their lives) to ever run a program like Fifth Estate's Cheney episode, perhaps the CBC could also investigate and report on another widely ignored story, the implications that the intelligence on Iraq was fixed to get the war the Bushites wanted all along as revealed in the Downing Street Memo ( www.downingstreetmemo.com ).

2. This is fabulous...however, I can see it now....
the cons, especially the less educated among them, will say, "that is leftist rantings from a socialist foreign country" and dismiss it out of hand

3. LOL, the same 'socialist foreign country' that took the risk on 9/11
and let stranded aircraft land whereas bush would have let them crash after running out of fuel. The same 'socialist foreign country' that took in and cared for thousands of US citizens that were not allowed back into their own country for days.

I would say we aren't too worried WHAT the bush cabal might say about the truth that is being depicted by the documentary.

4. Cheney is key in this
Here's the rub: boosh says that 9/11 "changed everything." His story is that right up to that very moment when the terriorists attacked, he wanted to be the education president.

(Later on he claims God chose him for this crusade, but I digress.)

But if one looks at how Cheney moved from helping the Incompetent One choose a VP to being the VP, if one looks at how Cheney installed in the Education President's cabinet a warmongering cabal of war profiteers and religious wack jobs, one is left with the burning question:

WHY DID THE EDUCATION PRESIDENT INSTALL A WAR CABINET???

Why, why, why?

6. Too bad, you'd never see this show on US corporate media.
inspite of all the hypocritical bullshit they spout about the lack of a free press and freedom of expression in other countries around the world.
