Poll question: In desperation, the Republican Party abandons BushCo
and gets behind someone else. We'll identify this person by the initials GOP. GOP is a very moderate Republican. He is for universal, insurance-company-based healthcare {something a bare majority of Republicans do actually favor}, civil unions for LGB people, rewinding the tax cut and the inheritance giveaway, repudiating PNAC's imperialism (but maintaining the war budget), and trimming up the PATRIOT Act a bit.

What do you do?

14. ZPPNVA...
is crazed militarily, he has never seen a conflict he didn't want to get into and will always for no apparent rhyme or reason say we need more troops there than anyone else's estimate.

2. Why would you ask this?
Who do you think is going to vote for a Republican?

6. Think about it a bit more
As to who would vote for a Republican, about 50M people seem, against all reason, to have done it in 2000.

3. what a thinly veiled attack on Dean
Wehn we all know DK is the real GOP-lite because of his tremendous history of anti-choice rhetoric.

5. You reveal only the poverty of your thinking
Or the speed of your knee reflexes, I'm not sure which. Perhaps both.

7. only pointing out that your candidate
is just as "GOP-lite" as mine. DK is a great guy really, but if you continue on this "Dean is a repuke" track, get ready for DK to be completely disembowled.

8. I don't think the poster is implying Dean.
I could be wrong, of course. I am just guessing.

9. The person refered to in the first post
is pretty clearly meant to be Howard Dean.

11. It could apply to most of the candidates.
That, I think is the point.

13. *blinking rapidly* Um ok, want to explain to me how Dean
can suddenly be backed by the GOP when he's a DEMOCRATIC candidate?

Yeesh, are Deanites suddenly paranoid or what? Seems to me the Dean supporters griping on the thread are most upset because the positions listed mirror Deans. Get a grip and think about why you're really upset here would you? Mairead NEVER mentioned Dean or any other Democratic Candidate. The premise is the GOP backs someone whose positions mirror Dean's. Now why do you ASSume it must therefore BE Dean unless you have some personal trouble with your candidates views?!

10. "disembowled"? You're going to steal his oatmeal bowl?

(Being a vegan, DK likes oatmeal for breakfast.)

Why would you do that to a really nice guy?

Even worse, why would you rip his guts out, as you really meant to suggest?

20. Back in '68, we were Clean for Gene (McCarthy) but in 2004

I guess they're Mean for Dean, LOL. Stealing food from the skinny is pretty low alright!

Maybe they'll at least leave him the whole wheat toast he eats with his oatmeal.

21. That's a very good comparison.
And it looks like we're gonna wind up with another Hubert Humphrey as the nominee. Sad, sad!

16. Ok, you tell me, what is it you think he can be
"disemboweled" with? The anti-choice thing? Nah, he hasn't hidden his previous position nor ever run from clarifying the change. What else do you have?

And PLEASE don't make me go dig up all those voting records to prove he changes from PL-PC because of totally seperate influences from his intent to run for President. Instead I'll just say that his first PC vote came a full year before he was even CONTEMPLATING a bid for the Presidency. DK was Drafted, in February, there is NO evidence to suggest any prior consideration of a Presidential bid.

19. erm, actually, Di, he had to have been thinking about it
from his 'Prayer' speech in Feb '02, since he got thousands upon thousands of e-mails afterwards (mine among them) begging him to stand. I'm sure every feminist included what I did, too: 'Change your stand on Choice!' That had to feel like a come-to-Jesus call.
