Ashcroft's firm will advise companies, help countries counter terrorism

WASHINGTON - After more than two decades in public service, former senator and attorney general John Ashcroft is moving to the private sector to help business clients navigate through the nation's capital.
Ashcroft is starting a consulting firm, called the Ashcroft Group, with longtime aide David Ayres and prominent Washington lobbyist Juleanna Glover Weiss, a former press secretary to Vice President Dick Cheney and adviser to Ashcroft when he was in the Senate.
"The Ashcroft Group will represent big companies with big problems," Weiss said Monday. "It wouldn't be outside the realm of opportunity for the Ashcroft team to consult with other countries as to how to strengthen their anti-terror measures or their law enforcement capabilities."
Ashcroft, 62, recently ended four years as the nation's chief law enforcement officer, much of the time devoted to fighting terrorism after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
