Repub fundie brother-in-law now claims that dinosaurs never existed.
He said they read a book at Bible study that proves it.

Anyone know what "book" this is? Another Intelligent Design "expert" author who also happens to be a Moonie?

36. The devil doesn't have the power to create. Therefore, they could
not have been planted by the devil.

If they were created in situ it had to have been done by god.

Why is god trying to trick us?

78. LOL! Maybe I should clarify...
Lady Democrat is a personal comic book character of mine that is in the developing stages. There is nothing on the Internet about her.
She is supposed to be a heroine that defends democracy and the good for people from corrupt politicians. In a way she is sort of like a political vigilante.
She's kind of a cross between Max from Dark Angel and Catwoman, except she isn't as "catty"

I was going to draw a portrait of her and paste up here but I am not sure how to do that.

The quote came to my mind one night while I was having trouble sleeping. The scene involves her being in a bar full of rednecks where some how politics got up in the air. She "straightens" out one of the rednecks or "bar frogs" (a term she uses for any frequent bar attendee) about an issue and the bar frog asks her "Are you one of those 'commie libruls?' in which the quote is said.

She is still in development and I am not sure if I will continue her story as I am having a hard time figuring out where her powers come from. I kinda like how Catwoman (in the movie) is set up with her powers but I don't want to seem to come of as a copy infringer.

Also she kind of ties in with a story that if I ever get around to putting it on a blog, in which there is an underground, rich, Republican political cult that kidnaps people that they percieve to be liberals and Democrats and enslaves them. I know it may seem strange or even offensive so I apologize for that.

I hope this explains it.

Dee

77. If God made everything was there room for dinosaurs on the ark?

I=ve dealt with dinosaurs before, but allow me to expand my previous responses as prompted by your question.

There exists a group among the Protestants who are called Fundamentalists. Among these are those who are AScriptural Literalists,@ who insist on the literal inerrancy (free from errors) of the Bible, especially the Kings James translation. They believe and teach that God=s Creation took place in six Atwenty-four hour@ days.

Using, twenty-four hour days, seven days in a week and fifty-two weeks a year, they can calculate the exact time of the Creation, as recorded in the chronology of the Old Testament, which they say is around 4000 BC. If this is true, how do you account for science with it=s discoveries regarding e = mc2, light-years, an expanding universe, carbon dating and the geological/fossil record, to name just a few glitches that line up against the above claim?

Literal Fundamentalists have devised all kinds of theories to defend their six-day (one hundred and forty-four hour) Creation. One such explanation would have us believe that the apparent geological and fossil records are a deception of Satan in an attempt to confuse the Atrue believer.@ Therefore, things appearing to be older than 4000 B.C. just never existed. It=s all a hoax according to them.

Edited on Thu May-26-05 06:26 PM by FreedomAngel82
about God's six-day creation ordeal is we don't know how long six-days is/was. There was no concept of time and in the spiritual realms from my experiences with time one day can appeal to be a whole lifetime. So when you die before your loved one (like a spouse) it can be like a whole day and then they'll show up. Really strange. Time is something for this dimension for whatever reason. I remember seeing this show on discovery channel, I believe it was, dealing with this and it was very fascinating. It basically told me what I already knew but with scientific proof.

know lots of Christian's who use the Bible to help further their beliefs in dinosaurs. In the college class at my church about a year or so ago we studied this book called "Why the Church of Christ?" and it was written by this guy who did a lot of studying on the Bible to try to find the right church to worship at and in the end he choose the Church of Christ and uses Biblical reasons and all that. He talks a bit about that and we talked about how in the beginning of the earth the animals were huge and all that. This guy who used to teach the college class (he's taking a break now) his daughter wants to be one of the researchers who look into all that. According to him she loves the "Land Beforetime." In the first movie they talk about evolution and he fastfowards through that since she's still really young and isn't old enough to make up her own mind about things and all that which is understandable (I'd probably do the same). So I don't get this not believing in dinosaur's nonsense. Whatabout the fossil's?

The Descent of Man and Selection in Relation to Sex

The Descent of Man and Selection in Relation to Sex by British naturalist Charles Darwin was first published in 1871. It was Darwin's second large book on evolutionary theory, following his 1859 work, The Origin of Species, and is concerned with outlining explicitly the application of Darwin's theory to human evolution, and outlining in detail the theory of sexual selection.

55. There must be different lines of "thought"
I was surprised to see the thing about dinosaurs living within the 6000 years (after hearing others say the the fossils were some kind of "test") - I don't know how they explain how they weren't mentioned in the Bible - it seems like it would have been worth mentioning - like what an experience that would have been with tyrannosaurus on the ark and all.

Either way - with carbon dating and everything - it's rather amusing to see them argue their way around science - (like on the answers in genesis site).

23. Then by that reasoning
fossil fuels are just a figment of his imagination?

Fossil fuels, coal, oil and natural gas, are a non-renewable source of energy. Formed from plants and animals that lived up to 300 million years ago, fossil fuels are found in deposits beneath the earth. The fuels are burned to release the chemical energy that is stored within this resource. Energy is essential to moden society as we know it. Over 85% of our energy demands are met by the combustion of fossil fuels. These two pie charts show exactly how vital fossil fuels are to our society by showing how much of each energy resource is consumed.

No, really, it's the theory that oil had nothing to do with ancient swamps and is just crap left over from the creation of the earth. The idea is that we can drill for oil anywhere and find it, and that global warming and peak oil aren't that pressing.

26. I saw a movie that proves *none* of this stuff exists
we're all in a giant computer program called "the matrix".

Some years ago, I was lucky enough to go and hear Steven J. Gould speak on a couple occasions. When talking about the search for truth, one of the first things he stipulated is that the world around us exists, and that the senses are the only tools we have for determining the state of the world around us.

Yes, you could be simply having a huge dream or hallucination. Yes, we could all be in some kind of giant computer program. Yes, god could have put us here on a world that only *appears* to have fossils and rock formations that are millions of years old.

But if that's the case, then you have no means of: 1 detecting that deception, and 2 figuring out ANYTHING about the world you're in. You've got to start with a belief that reality exists and isn't all part of some giant trick by the gods.

Such a god wouldn't be very easy to trust after you found out that this was all a big trick... maybe you'll wake up in heaven some day, greet your lost loved ones, and then BAM! it's all a trick... you've got another thousand years to go. When could you *ever* believe such a being?

32. What does it matter what the "book" is? He's beyond hope...
You said it yourself in this sentence:

He said they read a book at Bible study that proves it.

Let's see -- paleontologists have spent thousands upon thousands of hours studying dinosaur remains, and written thousands of books on the subject. But your BIL chooses to discount all of that because he "read a book at Bible study that proves it."

I wouldn't even try, blm. It sounds like he's off the deep end. Lemme guess -- the next thing he'll tell you is that all those fossilized remains were put here by Satan to trick us and get us to lose our faith.

47. I just had an EVIL thought.
If we were really BAD, you know what we'd do? (Not "we" as in the Dems officially, but just a general "we" as in progressives and liberals.)

We would totally exploit their stupidity. Hell, the people on "their" side do it all the time.

We'd write books about exactly HOW the devil created all those bones and how museum directors are ACTUALLY AGENTS OF SATAN. And in universities all over the nation, people majoring in things like anthropology and archeology and things like that are just DEVIL WORSHIPPERS and they MUST BE STOPPED, so SEND US MONEY TO STOP THEM!!!

Then we give all the profit from the booklets and their donations to good liberal causes. And, ironically, natural history museums everywhere.

If I knew someone who thought dinosaurs never existed (and I bet I know a few like that), I'd be soooo tempted to screw with their heads, because it's obviously so easy. I'd tell them all kinds of untrue stuff, not anything that would set their radar off, just little stuff I'd completely make up.

Wow, that's evil of me. But it's too easy!

That could've been the idea for all we know. I mean, c'mon, who takes it THAT seriously? I don't know any Christian at my church who takes this stuff as seriously as the fundies. They know it's there but don't think twice about it. We've had very very few conversations about it. Right now we're studying Revelation on Sunday morning but nothing about "the end of the world is coming" stuff. He's going through scriptures that are encouraging words through hard times which is nice for now with W in the White House.

You may wish to sidetrack the debate by discussing the dinosaur lies of blm's "brother-in-law". Dinosaurs exist all right, but not like you think. Your puny reason is no match for the Truth, you secular inhumanists. Click on the link below and watch the movie. I dare you. You will never be the same (and you know in your heart that's a good thing).

http://www.christiananswers.net/dinosaurs/video.html

Did dinosaurs really become extinct millions of years before the existence of humans?

This ground-breaking educational film reveals historical and archaeological evidence that dinosaur and man once co-existed. This popular motion picture is enjoyed by both young and old. Be sure to see the companion book, The Great Dinosaur Mystery and the Bible, as well as our very large and unique dinosaur Web site.

Ancient Sumerian and Chinese legend and the Apochrypha PROVE that dinosaurs were alive at the same time as humans!

Furthermore, we have artists on staff who can draw creatures from these legendary descriptions that look JUST LIKE DINOSAURS!

It's the latest scientific proof that evolution is wrong!

74. Found this

Question:

I have a fundamentalist friend that says, "Dinosaurs never existed". They say that it disagrees with the Bible. Why do Christians deny scientific facts? Does the Bible deny the existence of dinosaurs?

Answer:

I have to agree with you. I am bothered when I hear Christians say that dinosaurs never existed. That is just pure ignorance - both of the Bible and of science. How can anyone look at the thousands of complete skeletons collected from all over the world and say, "I refuse to see it"?

http://www.exchangedlife.com/QandA/BibleDinos.shtml

And this:

I believe dinosaurs are used more than any other topic by evolutionists to brainwash our children into accepting evolutionary ideas and rejecting the Bible as God's inerrant Word.

But one such explanation DOES exist! If you change the timescale to thousands of years instead of millions, and then think about the event of the Flood of Noah's day and the animals that escaped on the Ark, there is an explanation that fits with what Charig stated above.

Why not call ICR (619-448-0900) or Master Books (1-800-999-3777) or Films for Christ (1-800-332-3361) today and ask for a catalog that lists the beautifully produced materials which tell the TRUTH about dinosaurs from a Christian perspective. Also, Regular Baptist Press (708-843-1600) has produced a beautiful vacation-Bible-school curriculum for 1993 using ICR materials. Perhaps these materials are just what some of your friends need to get them to read the Bible. Maybe you haven’t told your children the correct story about dinosaurs, and maybe you have let them read and see only volutionary explanations about these creatures. Maybe their faith in the Bible has been weakened because you have not dealt with this subject. Don’t forget, Fathers, bring your children up "in the nurture and admonition of the Lord" (Ephesians 6:4).

100. This seems a good response to
the creationist fundies. Courtesy of the lovely and talented Mr. Eric Idle:

"All Things Dull and Ugly"

All things dull and ugly,
All creatures short and squat,
All things rude and nasty,
The Lord God made the lot.

Each little snake that poisons,
Each little wasp that stings,
He made their brutish venom,
He made their horrid wings.

All things sick and cancerous,
All evil great and small,
All things foul and dangerous,
The Lord God made them all.

Each nasty little hornet,
Each beastly little squid,
Who made the spikey urchin,
Who made the sharks, He did.

All things scabbed and ulcerous,
All pox both great and small,
Putrid, foul and gangrenous,
The Lord God made them all.
AMEN.
