Anti-abortion activist Randall Terry to challenge King

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Anti-abortion activist Randall Terry, who resurfaced on the national stage in Terri Schiavo's dying days, said Thursday he will decide in three weeks whether to launch a Republican primary challenge to former state Senate President Jim King.

Terry, 46, with about 25 supporters standing behind him, said at a news conference that he planned to challenge King, whom he claimed had strayed away from conservative values, if he can find "momentum, manpower and money."

Terry said he has a goal of raising $15,000 within the next three weeks, although he concedes it may take more than $500,000 to mount a challenge to King in the heavily Republican district that stretches from Duval County to northern Volusia County.

"Jim King has consistently betrayed the core values of the Republican Party," said Terry, who acknowledges more than 40 arrests as the founder of the anti-abortion group Operation Rescue.

6. Unlike Illinois, this is a Republican area.
It won't be the same by any means.
