(New Creation) Museum Claims Earth is 6,000 Years Old

Museum Claims Earth is 6,000 Years Old

http://www.livescience.com/othernews/ap_050523_creation_museum.html

"Ken Ham has spent 11 years working on a museum that poses the big question -- when and how did life begin? Ham hopes to soon offer an answer to that question in his still-unfinished Creation Museum in northern Kentucky.

The $25 million monument to creationism offers Ham's view that God created the world in six, 24-hour days on a planet just 6,000 years old. The largest museum of its kind in the world, it hopes to draw 600,000 people from the Midwest and beyond in its first year.

Ham, 53, isn't bothered that his literal interpretation of the Bible runs counter to accepted scientific theory, which says Earth and its life forms evolved over billions of years.

Ham said the museum is a way of reaching more people along with the Answers in Genesis Web site, which claims to get 10 million page views per month and his "Answers ... with Ken Ham'' radio show, carried by more than 725 stations worldwide.

1. Why isn't this being more aggressively tackled by liberal Christians?
This is a farrago of lies. It'll be Holocaust denial museums next.

15. No man can serve two masters.
I am a liberal Christian I should say at the outset. And, as long as none of my money goes to fund this museum, I don't see that it's any of my business.

I don't really understand creationists myself. The importance of the creation, is that we were created and our lives have meaning. Whether it happened over 7 days and the earth is 6,000 years old or whether that took millions of years, I don't know how that would change the basic religious principle.

Scientific evidence indicates that it took millions of years to get to this point, and any countervailing evidence is largely twisted. In the absense of negative proof why not just let it be millions of years? Does that change anything?

I tend to be practically minded on religious questions though.

2. This received FUNDING?
I'm in the wrong business entirely, it seems. I should be in the business of duping morons.

"Yeah, human life was created by rib extraction. Really. NAW, I don't find it silly, come on, I'll show ya . . ."

:silly:

4. Wouldn't it be something to find out it received federal funding
because some dumb hick representative stuck into an omnibus spending bill knowing no one would look too deeply into it?

7. Yes
Where do you think Republicans evolved from? Talking snakes seems closer than primates.

9. It wasn't really a snake. It was Satan disguised as a snake
Believing the Bible literally means allowing for magical powers.

So, you have that answer, or, something else a fundie could come back with is "If God wills a snake to talk, it can talk!"

But then, why did God will the snake to talk to Eve...

The plot thickens...

13. That's just one of my standard questions about
the Bible....i.e., it says a talking snake..so does that mean that at one time, snakes had the physical capacity to speak, and the mental capacity to speak English (assuming that's what Adam and Eve spoke.....BTW,, if their sons married, where did their wives come from? it boggles the mind)....
I wonder if the snake had a voice that sounded like Rodney Dangerfield
also,, if the flood story is true,,,, the Big Dude upstairs killed an awful lot of babies, kittens, puppies,,, lambs,,, etc,,, when He, in His wisdom, unleashed the Deluge.....

12. Here's the museum's Web site:
http://www.answersingenesis.org/museum/

It's great for a laugh. I wrote a story on this place a while back, just for laughs. I mean, they make it so easy, it's like shooting fish in barrel -- at least, it's like shooting fish in a barrel before they develop lungs and webbed feet and escape the barrel ;)
